The loading music is better. The characters are more relatable and immersive. Niko is a great protagonist with his background and character development. Simple as. The latina gal and surface level random white guy in hollywood NiggerBeachCity tm aren't gonna live up to it and we can already tell 6 is going to be boring, stale as fuck.

For me the early 00s feel even playing it for the first time a few years ago is what sticks with me the most. Also Niko after finishing the story you can feel the sadness in the world which is unusual in these type of games. Franklin was the worse protagonist and it pisses me off that you couldn't switch to Trevor or Michael after learning about the hit and team up together to kill Franklin. Which was the obvious choice.

Honestly the DLC for 4 wasn't that special. Gay Tony was good but it never added much to 4. The biker gang dlc was horrible.

Based take. There's just something about Liberty City in 4 that feels way more alive and grounded than anything in 5. The rain-soaked streets, the radio hosts talking about dumb 2008 shit, even Niko mumbling to himself in Serbian mid-mission-it all hits different. They actually tried to make you care about the world and the people in it. Franklin always felt like a watered-down CJ with no real agency or motivation past "I wanna get rich." Meanwhile, Niko’s story actually sticks with you, especially that feeling of emptiness when it’s all over. You nailed it with how it captures that early '00s melancholy too, it’s unironically more atmospheric than half the so-called “immersive sims” today.

Physics, more realistic, gloomy.
It honestly feels like GTA 3 atmosphere wise. Also, the multiplayer was just designed around fucking off having fun and not microtransactions. I’ll sometimes start the game up on my Xbox just to drive around in free roam lobbies with randoms.

The game technically starts with Michael but that's more like a flashback, the first actual mission in the game starts with Franklin and ends with him choosing who gets to die. They definitely wanted him to be the main character, they just sucked at writing him
