It really was a superfluous sequel that bent over backwards to justify itself. A punk like Vlad somehow being groomed to be the inheritor of the Illuminati was absurd. A good game but just really silly.

The gameplay fucking sucked and became mindless slop. Also the story and writing were just worse in every way

The story was fine once you realize they're going for a David Lynch style surreal faux-soap opera version of noir, but the gameplay was bad. The shootdodge kind of sucks and instead you're expected to charge right into enemy gunfire and tank bullets while abusing the retarded slow-mo. That and there's way too many missions stuffed full of physics objects exploding all around you randomly.
The story was fine once you realize they're going for a David Lynch style surreal faux-soap opera version of noir, but the gameplay was bad. The shootdodge kind of sucks and instead you're expected to charge right into enemy gunfire and tank bullets while abusing the retarded slow-mo. That and there's way too many missions stuffed full of physics objects exploding all around you randomly.

Well if we are talking about Max Payne, even if it's through disingenuous means, I'd like to say that MP3 was an incredible game and I feel bad for putting off playing it until 13 years after its release.
I've owned it for like 8 years even, I just didn't want to play it. I saw the pictures of Max being old, bald, fat, and wearing a Hawaiian shirt in Brazil, and thought "nah that looks too different to the other games".
Finally played it about a week back, still got HEALTH's soundtrack on my mind now.
