Sonic 06 is a game that dreams. I miss when Sega thought Sonic should be the sickest, most kino shit, even if it never was. I like it so much more than the fanon cringe it's become nowadays.

Sonic needs an expansive game with a large cast of characters (Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Blaze, Silver, a couple new characters too) and a good story. Plus a monster of the week final boss that overpowers eggman so he teams up with sonic, and an orchestral/symphonic rock theme that lifts the main theme melody.

It fails because it's the exact point at which they hired Ian Flynn to insert his fanon writing where every line of dialogue has to reference something else in the "canon".

I made a thread about this couple days ago but yes i agree. I like Sonic when its melodramatic christian undertones with crazy adventure shit and high stakes. The Meta irony stuff makes the characters lose integrity.

This is such a perfect description. Watching Nazo Unleashed also gave the same feeling.

The games shouldn't be referencing the characters and locations, they should actually be in the games. Even spin-off games like riders were alright because they fully embraced their story and characters, rather than just being a bunch of call-backs
