I just started 3 for the first time. Shit is immediately scary. Like there's no walk to Silent Hill. I'm just in a nightmare and boop now I'm in the mall and it's the first dungeon. So far I'm really digging it. SH1 is my favorite. I love the gameplay and it's story. With 2 I loved the story, but was bored by the gameplay and never found it scary.

Agreed. 3 had a lot of potential, but you can really feel those time constraints in padding and reused assets. Still, I'd argue that SH1+SH3 for a whole that mogs the entire series.

SH3 is probably the most unrelenting of the games, particularly early on it has very little in the way of chill atmosphere like SH2 had where you're walking through the town for 30 minutes (if you've never played before) before you even encounter your first enemy. it's why its probably my least favorite of the 'trilogy', way too combat focused when combat has never been a good part of SH games.

Origins was a mistake. Don't get me wrong, the atmosphere is great, so is the soundtrack and the (very few) original monster designs. But everything about the story is dogshit, and what makes it worse is that it has the audacity to drag its balls all over SH1.

I really don't care about the story though.
Atmosphere wise it's very fun because it returns to the classic SH style after 4 and gameplay wise it still has the biggest amount of weapons and most importantly unlockables including ones that alter gameplay in minor ways like in SH3 such as the night vision googles
SH2 remake on the other hand has zero replay value

3 is less scary than the first game, has worse pacing than the first two games and its story feels like an afterthought appendix to the first game. SH2 is at least original. Only Heatherfags think it is better than the two first games outside of the graphics.
