Nintendo is currently planning on releasing a reissue of the original Gameboy with bluetooth features/GBC functionality either by the end of this year or by spring next year.
This console will be compatible with original cartridges (it is undecided if they are going to reissue cartridge games) but will also ship with a new menu when the console is booted with no game inserted. The purpose of the menu is to connect the console to the Switch and to be used as a controller for the Gameboy Classics app. There will also be two buttons added to the top to be used on the Switch: A home menu button and a ZR button of sorts for the ingame menu.
As stated before the screen/hardware is actually closer to the GBC but in a DMG shell. I do not know if you're able to get the classic green coloring or if you are stuck with the GBC color options. The menu for the Gameboy Classics app will change to the same colors as the console when it is connected as a controller and the sounds change to sound effects from Super Mario Land. Notably these sounds have not been added yet but will be in a future update.
There will be no other color/model options. MSRP is planned to be around $100 before tariffs. I do not know if this will use AA batteries or use a rechargable battery but it will have a USB C port. I wouldn't be surprised if the GBA is coming next. I don't know if it will support any sort of wireless linking or other connectivity with the Gameboy Classics app.
