Nintendo is currently planning on releasing a reissue of the original Gameboy with bluetooth features/GBC functionality either by the end of this year or by spring next year.

This console will be compatible with original cartridges (it is undecided if they are going to reissue cartridge games) but will also ship with a new menu when the console is booted with no game inserted. The purpose of the menu is to connect the console to the Switch and to be used as a controller for the Gameboy Classics app. There will also be two buttons added to the top to be used on the Switch: A home menu button and a ZR button of sorts for the ingame menu.

As stated before the screen/hardware is actually closer to the GBC but in a DMG shell. I do not know if you're able to get the classic green coloring or if you are stuck with the GBC color options. The menu for the Gameboy Classics app will change to the same colors as the console when it is connected as a controller and the sounds change to sound effects from Super Mario Land. Notably these sounds have not been added yet but will be in a future update.

There will be no other color/model options. MSRP is planned to be around $100 before tariffs. I do not know if this will use AA batteries or use a rechargable battery but it will have a USB C port. I wouldn't be surprised if the GBA is coming next. I don't know if it will support any sort of wireless linking or other connectivity with the Gameboy Classics app.

>This console will be compatible with original cartridges
Not happening. It is far too much work to make SoC shit work with original hardware than it is to replicate original hardware, which costs too much when Nintendo wants to make a pretty profit off every unit sold.

Plus they have no reason to do it when Switch exists with its NSO library, as pointed out by your OP image. Analogue Pocket exists for those wanting that original-cartridge shit.

From what I've tested, it's a Retron 5 situation where it simply dumps the contents of the cartridge and runs from the copied ROM itself. They could have manufactured the original chips and made a new bios for the bluetooth functionality, but they did not want people to run flashcarts on these and it will actually not run rewritable flash carts. The cartridge slot was simply a bonus that didn't need to be done since this is primarily to be used with the Switch as a controller.

You don't think it's weird that they licensed the Gameboy design to LEGO and that they revealed it so early despite it coming out almost 7 months after it was revealed? This controller/console is set to be revealed around that same time as well.

What sense does this make at all. Not that I believe this leak, but please elaborate what you mean by this.

>OP sees Lego announce some shit early and fabricates some dipshit justification for it onto /v/ to validate his idea

They did this with the Pokemon set also, Christ I hope you made this thread to giggle like a retard for your epic larp instead of actually being a theory crafting dipshit who wanted a chance to sniff their own farts for thinking they made a plausible situation.
