ME 1 combat felt like the best in the series for me, and while ME 2 had "smoother" shooter gameplay, I felt that the sprint nerf was beyond retarded, regenerating health removed any tension that the combat had, and the sound design for weapons was infinitely worse. The ME 1 shotgun and sniper had a deafning "BOOM!" to them that ME 2 really lacked, and the feedback made them feel like unruly, dangerous weapons (getting in close in ME1 with a shotgun was incredibly high-risk-high-reward type shit, as the combat was much more fatal and you didn't have the "i-frame lunge" ability that the psy-brawler class gets in ME2).
