idremember about cs:s but cs 1.6 and others that came with cs 1.6(tfc, dod) you could upload gifs from your computer if they were small enough, anything. there were programs to format them as well, basically there was a lot more freedom than we have today. also for all the bullshit skins people pay money for today, we used to download much better ones custom made off the internet, from websites such as gamebanana, I remember in 1.6 one weapon skin I downloaded changed the gun model to a custom model that turned it into a space gun, custom pew pew sound effects, custom animations, all free, no need to buy it off the fucking game company cause people genuinely enjoyed making content for the games they loved to play.
