ZTO outbreak (turtles) was my go to back in the day IIRC 2009/2010

then when that server died I played alot of [PF] plague fest, both were a mix of zombie mod and zombie escape.

the one server that is sometimes populated is kinda shit but theres nothing else like it

Some of the most fun I’ve ever had in TF2 was surfing to the end as engineer, building a teleporter to enemy spawn and watching the rape unfold. Those days are long gone because now there’s spawn protection plugins and/or func_nobuild plastered all over the maps.

Is there a reason why every popular zombie map looked like horrid shit?
I remember always wanting to play on the cool ruined city maps that obviously had a lot of love put into them by the mapmakers, but they were almost never played. It was just these fucking fullbright cubes with two textures for the entire map and one barricade item, a vending machine, copy pasted 50000 times into the one viable room for defense.

idremember about cs:s but cs 1.6 and others that came with cs 1.6(tfc, dod) you could upload gifs from your computer if they were small enough, anything. there were programs to format them as well, basically there was a lot more freedom than we have today. also for all the bullshit skins people pay money for today, we used to download much better ones custom made off the internet, from websites such as gamebanana, I remember in 1.6 one weapon skin I downloaded changed the gun model to a custom model that turned it into a space gun, custom pew pew sound effects, custom animations, all free, no need to buy it off the fucking game company cause people genuinely enjoyed making content for the games they loved to play.

There’s still a zm server going that gets max players daily. the twist is instead of like the old servers when you die as a zombie you don’t respawn as infected again, you get respawned as human. Not endlessly playing as a zombie and gives a bit more purpose to hunting down zombies.
