Guitar Hero and Rock Band were absolutely massive 10-15 years ago. What happened?

I started to learn the guitar when I was like 9 years old but stopped because I preferred just playing Guitar Hero/Rock Band.
Probably one of the most retarded decision I’ve ever made to this day.
I could be proficient in an actual instrument, but instead I’m just good at a crappy plastic guitar game no one cares about anymore.

Guitar Hero Live would’ve been good if they used 5 frets instead of 3.
Reducing the number of frets just because they split the buttons in half was dumb.

Activision bought GH and put out a million low effort spin offs and sequels that all still costed $100+. Nobody was interested in buying 2-3 new GH games every year.
>>715124940
This, but also play GH2 Deluxe, RB3 Deluxe, and YARG. They're not as easy to get running and you'll need a better pc for it but they all have way better engines.

The good news is that it’s almost impossible to forget procedural memories and we’re in the golden age for learning guitar, pick it back up and it’ll come back to you. I played throughout high school and college lost interest for about a decade picked it back up about a year ago and am back to that level. There’s a billion free lessons and tips on YouTube.

Deleo and Frusciante are really good at making you learn bullshit chords that get used once for 1 second in an entire song.

>>715125919
I played guitar for years before trying it and I find it incredibly helpful for learning songs rather than just staring at a tab on a screen, especially using the riff repeater to slow sections down so you can practice over and over. Having a score to beat or a percentage to make go up every time you play makes it a bit more fun

real answer is the music licensing is more insane than ever, there is also the peripheral trap of making the games expensive, plus the traditional 4 instrument band isn't popular anymore, DJ Hero was the saturation point

Yeah it's this
I think the biggest problem boils down to two things for western rhythm games
1. The music industry is controlled by greedy jews
2. The audience don't want to play songs by literalwhos
Meanwhile it's the complete opposite on both fronts in Japan

+latency is lower because it uses ASIO by default or whatever
+note detection is noticeably better than 2014
+alot of care is put into lessonslop this time
and even though the song library is disappointing for the most part, you will succeed in extending your band/artist knowledge and what you find enjoyable because lesser known songs are charted.

This. Labels and corporations are greedy. They want obscene amounts of money to have their tracks in a game. They'll even retroactively for the removal of tracks from games if contracts aren't renewed. All that judaism led to the downfall of not only guitar and drum games but also dance games as well

I hate the whole “why play guitar hero when you could just learn real guitar” shit. They’re not the same thing. Guitar hero is its own skill, reading charts, fast reflexes, muscle memory, etc and you can like that, doesn't mean you're learning a useless "guitar". You’re not giving up one for the other. Real guitar is a whole different world. Yeah you need muscle memory too, but more than that, you need to actually get music. not just follow tabs, but understand rhythm, pitch, harmony.
Like back in high school I could play guitar, follow tabs, but I had zero feel. Couldn’t play by ear, couldn’t tune without help. It was all just copying.
Dropped guitar for like 10 years, came back, and something just clicked. I can figure out songs by ear, tune instinctively, jam without needing sheet music. That's what playing a real instrument is like not just moving your fingers, but actually knowing what sounds right. What I mean is: if you think “i could’ve learned guitar instead of guitar hero,” maybe not. You might not have been ready. Understanding music is its own thing entirely, and GH would have never taught you that.

I imagine the audio engineering knowledge required to get something like that working as well as RS+ is pretty extensive. There aren't a whole lot of programmers who specialize in audio, so the pool of them that would be willing to work on such an open source project must be small too.

Fucking this. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact they are overcharted as fuck. Even songs that should be much easier got notes up the ass. You can really tell the difference between a community charter and a RB/GH chart.

The dumb aspect of the whole thing is that learning to play a guitar really well and learning to play GH really well are just different kinds of fun. Plenty of the best GH players in the world are people that also play guitar and bass, and will be the first people to tell you that they never go to one as a substitute for the other.
