I remember playing HL2 as one of my first shooter games on PC and thinking Ravenholm was the comfiest chapter in the game because you just get to kill zombies in various inventive ways with a funny crazy dude.
Then it was back to the cold dystopian world and clinical body horror after that.

I’d appreciate him more if the Ravenholm chapter wasn’t so overrated and annoying. Way too easy to get lost in that Eastern yuropoor shantytown, everything looks the fucking same and stumbling past 6 gorillion zombies as you fruitlessly look for the progression point isn’t fun. Even on repeat playthroughs I get lost constantly

Valve really dodged a bullet by not letting all those external studios release their HL2 episodes. They're basically worse than modders. What the hell were they thinking, adding headcrabless zombies? It's like they were trying to take Half-Life and make it generic.

Opposing Force basically is just Half-Life fanfiction, complete with a new alien race and Gearbox's OC being such an important figure even the G-man takes notice. Valve probably figured it worked out the first time, so why not a second until some faction within the company decided to push back on letting outsiders shit all over their work since HL2 is much more story-driven. OpFor isn't actually very good either so it was absolutely the right call

I wish someone made a mod that gave HL2 vorts new design, that would look closer to HL1s alien slaves. Ideally with a new voice over, too. They absolutely need to make those weird noises they used to make.
