NTA but DLC systems allow for far more customizable and low-cost expansions. The threshold for expansion packs was much larger so smaller issues or problems in balance could just not be worth fixing.

Mario 64 was the first of its kind and its movement, momentum and freedom of movement hasn't been topped to this day. Mario Galaxy also has never been topped in terms of gravity platformers. I wish you were right because I've played endless amounts of indie-shit trying to recapture how good 3D mario feels, and they never get it right.
