Ataris weird
You can get a brand new 2600 and 7800 that plays the old games for over 130 usd
You're Essentially paying more now for a 2600 than you were back in the 80s

The 2600 was $199 at launch. That's equal to $1,055 in 2025.

In 1984, the 2600 was $45, which is $239 today.

At $130 or $60 you're still getting it cheaper than it was at the bottom of the Great Crash.

It was a different time. Adjusting for inflation only partly adjusts for purchasing power. That $199 wasn't as hard for a family to part with as $1000 today; it's just proof of how much weaker the US dollar is now after the 70s depression. Look at how much lower the inflation rate is when compared to 1984, just 7 years later.

You know... I might pick this up. This was the first game console I ever spent time with. It was old even at the time but when the 2nd dude my mom was fucking (she's kind of a slut) showed me this I was never the same. Played the hell out of it until she stopped fucking him.

Couple birthdays later I had my very own SNES and it was really over for me then.

Also the official MSRP was always 199.99. Retailers in different areas didn't have to abide by the suggestion.

It's true. My childhood was something else. My "real dad" would hide his cocaine on cookie sheets and slide them under the little area under couches. Like this 400iq play would prevent the cops from finding it or something. It didn't. After that we lived in a trailer in a small village and a rat died in the furnace, so I was just blasted with dead rat smell all the time. Still smell it in my nightmares. Couldn't be healthy whatever was floating in the air.

Think this might be why I do have a strong Nintendo preference. No matter how shit things got I always has my SNES. Death grip on that fucking thing. Even when mom tried to sell it for booze.

Good talk, same time next week?
