It feels completely random whether or not my beats are perfect on the Switch version. Is this the input lag I keep hearing about?
If so it's kinda wacky how hard it is to port over properly

1 is just very strict, 2's ease of perfects can be adjusted iirc

Friendly reminder the games are set to easy by default which heavily nerfs the damage enemies do and increases drop rates of materials across the board.

Patapon 1 was strict in the timing for activating Fever but keeping fever up was pretty lenient.
Patapon 2 made it significantly easier to get "perfect" hits to activate fever however.

Finally tried the Ratatan demo today
I actually kinda like the new core gameplay, it feels quite chaotic, but it certainly has a higher skill ceiling and I think it's a nice compromise between clearly being a spiritual successor, but still being its own thing

That being said, I really dislike the art direction. Patapon looked cool, elegant and aesthetic in its simplicity. Ratatan feels very overdesigned and visually loud in comparison. Also, while obviously being a kid friendly game, Patapon had some edge and cool factor to it, it was after all a game about an army of murderous tribals on a fanatical war pilgrimage facing against monsters, horrors and armies of hostile civilisations. Ratatan is just way too cutesy and happy and kawaii for my taste. Same goes for the music.

Also not a big fan of going the roguelike route, this shit is everywhere these days and while it can be enjoyable, I much prefer hand crafted content and planned, steady progression rather than gambler tier dopamine drops from lucky runs

Thanks for reading my random ass review

If Freedom Wars can get ported, Wipeout could. There might be music rights issues, though. Also unrelated, but 2048 is still one of the greatest intro cinematics to any game.

Please do NOT slander HARD mode.
>Easy
Very easy to enter fever (perhaps too easy). Hero patapon powers activated with one "perfect" timing command (not march)
>Normal
A step up for attaining fever but still easy enough for those new to Patapon. Hero patapon powers activated with one "perfect" timing command (not march)
>Hard
Same/slightly higher difficulty as the original when it comes to fever mode. Hero patapon powers require three "perfect" timings in a row.

It doesn't lower the drop rate of anything.

Accuracy is important to rhythm games since you're mostly relying on your own internal rhythm/metronome to be accurate. If you've never played a keysounded rhythm game like beatmania IIDX or something, it's hard to describe. Basically, a sound is made when the key is pressed. In a perfect world (namely actual arcade cabinets that are built for this sort of thing) the sound happens the nanosecond the input is registered.

Now, imagine if, when you pressed an input, the sound happed ~20-40ms later. That might not sound like a lot, but that is an absolutely fucking massive amount of time when it comes to rhythm games, especially keysounded ones where all the instruments happen later than you expect them to.

Imagine you were playing a rhythm game where accuracy is important. You need to hit the input within milliseconds of the timing window.

Now imagine your inputs are delayed by a tenth of a second.

Is there actually input issues? I saw people online say it is due to bluetooth earphones having issues and needing to plug wired earphones in to the controller to get rid of the input delay. I also saw people say this issue is caused by the monitors.

Two possibilities
>There is actually a slight delay that desyncs the beats even with calibration and makes the gameplay 10 times harder, however it seems to be really hardware dependant since many people also report having no lag whatsoever
>These are just genuine patapon newfags/people who only played 2 or 3 on normal complaining about experiencing 1 for the first time and blaming the port instead because the timings there are very strict
>People are playing with shit pads over bluetooth and get latency in a timing-centered game

There's delay everywhere, the controller, the monotors, the headphones. It's a simple fact of computing. The important part is making sure the delay between the visuals, the audio, and the input all sync up so you "Feel" like the timing is right, and that's significantly harder on a PC where there are a million combinations of parts someone can be using, vs a handheld where you know all the components exactly.
Most PC rhythm games fix this by giving a delay calibration option in the game itself. I heard this port was gonna have one, but was that actually true.

Because they would have to put as much work as they did for porting the first two games together, considering the need to convert the multiplayer handling to something steam and the switch can support.
It makes sense for them to release the first two first to test the waters, and only work on 3 if they sold well enough.
