Aftermath of the almost game ending first raid by devourers (they came out of the river in the middle of the map). Devourers are totally broken and should be overhauled. Too bad Anomaly was marketed to sweats so they never cared about the game's basic rules.

I usually never do single structure colonies and always have done village style builds so this DLC is pretty much forcing an interesting playstyle on me.

The constraints of the gravship scenario have taught me a valuable lesson about leaving electrically powered production facilities outside where they can get rained on, chemfuel refinery my beloved, I thought I just got super unlucky with lightening strikes on 2 facilities in short order and was gonna repair them in the morning, then one of them got on fire a second time
I played the spaceship start, and it seems kinda meh. The space constraits make things more difficult, but in an annoying way. Landing for timber (to make chemfuel) and food (to make nutrient paste) is annoying if there's no object of interest in the area to do by the side as you wait for the engine to cool down. Because of the limited space, you can't really build a big team quick enough to enjoy landing on tribal villages and raiding them.
Overal I still think the most fun start is an eldrich cult, dont @ me with your bad anomaly takes. There's always stuff to do in that start.

I make granite walls five tiles thick and then place turrets behind them to make attacking pawns path to any of two or three entrances six to eight tiles wide, then I just set up some sandbags and embrasures on the other side of it and defend it normally. If I'm feeling frisky I'll set up some minefields in parts of the map I want raiders to avoid.
Counterintuitively, a lot of the defenses in the game like turrets and mines aren't actually meant to be used to kill, but as area denial. Pawns will always favour any hole in your defenses over actively defended areas with the exception of conscripted pawns.

In general you use the time between raids to improve your base, and ideally to recruit the raiders from the previous raid if necessary.
"Colonist joined" events are far more common below a certain colonist threshold.

It really does prefer to spawn infestations OUTSIDE of your mountain base, it is just that players go with a min-max attitude thinking that they can make a base sprawl through the whole mountain and leave nothing untouched.
As long as you have a natural cave or a strip mine the infenstations WILL spawn there 90% of the time.
I did get an infestation inside the base eventually and it was very easy to handle with the chokepoint design of my open corridors. It was just took a longer time than usual to recover from it by cleaning the mess.
