Usually if you are playing a horror game with friends, 2 things happen.
They either get a boost of confidence and start fucking around so much that nothing is scary anymore, or the game has a ceartain effect that slowly makes people scared and having friends with you makes it even scarier since you are dropping your guard againest whatevers coming. You can get less scared by expecting scary shit, but if you are feeling something else and are distracted the emption of fear is a bit more intense.
Lethal Company was decent in the second category due to how proximity chat works, and thanks to the guy who made the skinwalker mod shit just made it even creepier.
