as far as I remember, Evils Doom was buggy as it was never fully released. Also torches had horrible flickering effect, so light magic was mandatory for dungeons.

I used to play Majesty every year, and I'd play one of Might and Magic 6, 7, or 8 every year or two but I haven't done either in the last ~3 years. Think I've hit the point where I've gone through each of them enough.

I feel the same, but I also feel like you would really like indie games, but dont want to touch them for some reason. The size and scale of a lot of indie games now is that of when these older games were being made, when games were made by people who actually wanted to make them and not becuase they have to show up to work and punch in at the office.

It's only 8 years old but I missed EDF5 when it came out. Got it on sale and having a great time with it. Objectively, it's kinda shit, the jank (and the voice acting) are painful at times, but the thing is that it doesn't matter because turning millions of giant animals and bugs into chunky salsa is just pure dopamine. Helldivers is a thousand times more pollished and complete as a game experience but EDF's over the top enemy spam (and gib spam) is pure dopamine.

Not really. Emulators are a pain in the ass and old games usually don't work on modern hardware unless you learn both Russian and Chinese well enough to read their forums and find the patches they share to make old games work

It's fine. SotC is one of my all time favorite games and I liked the remake. It's better than the original in a few ways, but I still think the original is the superior version. The PS2 version made use of the hardware limitations in a way that added more to the game. They turned constraints into features, somehow. But you can't go wrong either way, both versions are excellent.
