Will I be lost if I play this game without having played any other Assassin's Creed besides the very first one, which I barely remember what was like because it was over a decade ago?
The only reason I got interested is the Sengoku Period setting and one of the MCs being fucking Yasuke of all people, I'm curious to see what the hell they're gonna do with him.

Not really, Asscreed pretty much gave up on having an overarching story with the modern day shit after 3, every game since then might as well be a standalone thing with very loose connections with one another.

The Modern Day story is apparently only found in the Helix documents from the store menu and isn't focused on anywhere else, while the Isu stuff is primarily just for a macguffin you're chasing after and off to the side for the most part.

Because I'm a Sengoku Period fag and I was never that much interested in the series until this game caught my attention because of the setting. I just got done with what I think is the prologue, with Yasuke attacking Iga and Naoe sneaking around a castle to retrieve the box, only for them to steal it back and kill her father, honestly I thought it was enjoyable, moreso the stealth than the combat itself which felt a bit mindless when I was fighting the shinobi as Yasuke.

I like that they made it clear Nobunaga was wary of the jesuits and only allowed them in his territory because they were convenient as a means to keep the buddhists from gaining more influence, it also allowed him to have a good commercial relationship with Portugal. It's kinda weird how he's often portrayed as some kind of westaboo who welcomed christians and westerners into Japan because he loves their culture or whatever, I was half expecting this game to do the same thing.
