It has just come out for "free" on playstation, what am I in for? is it still as bad as reviews claimed back when it released? who should I pick, male or female? is the story engaging? world, side quests, customisation, romance?

Got it during the summer sale, on my 73rd hour as we speak.
It's the best Far Cry game ever made, just know that leveling is a double standard. You can swap Perk points at any time, but Attribute points are permanent. Dick around until maybe level 15 (you unlock new tiers of cyberware every 10 levels btw) then start running for a proper build since you get one free respec per playthrough.

Far Cry in general feels better to shoot and drive around in. Cyberpunk is a poor man's Far Cry, similar to how The Witcher is the poor man's Monster Hunter.

A bizarrely designed lootershooter minigame tacked onto a movie that isn't very good but watchable. Once the novelty begins to fade you'll quickly find issues that make it very unpleasant to play and you won't be able to fix any of them with mods on playstation. I got it for PC as well as Xbox series X, because I thought it would run better on the X than my old 1070ti. It doesn't, because you can't customize the graphical settings at all on consoles. It doesn't even look better either because of the forced upscaling. Honk honk welcome to clown world etcetera.

Either one honestly. Play the one whose voice you like more and what two of the gender-locked datable options appeals to you more. Most people play male v because they are dudes who don't like playing a woman and prefer Panem over Judy, but people also swear that female V has better voice acting overall. It's up to you really. You can also do multiple playthroughs, one male v, one female v, and choose nomad for one and corpo for the other.

corpo is for the dickhead 2nd playthrough. nomad and streetkid are both far more thematically appropriate. all the corpo dialogues are completely dissonant with what v is actually doing, but they can be funny. like you just got through killing a shitload of corporate lackeys, then v goes out of his way to say some bootlicker shit or act like soloing is poor people work.
