Pretty much, he wasn't happy at Konami and felt like he was being forced to make 4. MGS4 is his revenge against his MGS fans but MGSV is revenge against Konami.

Anon that's literally all he ever does. Anyway MGS4 is completely misunderstood as being "against the fans" when the problem was kojipro.
All of this "the fans made him do it!" stuff is the same bullshit, kojima made like five games in a row about how you need to pass your legacy down to others, and then every single time he tried to hand it to kojipro they couldn't finish it and begged him to come back and direct. His entire thesis statement was a complete bust because his legacy couldn't be passed down, MGS was going to live and die with him.
It had nothing to do with the fans. The fans didn't make him do shit. He kept handing MGS to kojipro and then three years later they'd come back and tell him they can't make it, they need him to direct again. That's the alan smithee thing. He doesn't care that MGS is getting a new game, he just didn't want to direct it.
