Yeah I played it years ago and don't understajd the praise. It was a fairly on rails shooter with not much depth except faulx rpg mechanics, like a shitty Prey with noe of the great game design parts that made Prey good or the impressive shooting and hit feedback.

The System Shock remake is far superior, besides keeping a proper tone and atmosphere the devond game doesn't have.

I wish for Ultima Underworld to receive the same remake treatment

I played through System Shock 1 and loved it a lot (played the OG but with whatever mouselook mod they put out) and was excited to play System Shock 2 afterwards. But I played SS2 for a couple hours and was kind of disappointed by it, or at least I couldn't really get into it like I was hoping to.

It's an imsim of a different subgenre entirely. SS1 is a metroidvania styled FPS game with a lot of tactical elements, SS2 is a FPSRPG with a lot of focus on stats and skills that the first game had none of.
