What if the Wii had HDMI and was more powerful? Not necessarily as powerful as the PS3/360, but enough for it to handle the average 7th-gen AAA multiplat in HD at a playable framerate. How would've the market and industry been affected?

most 360 and ps3 games didn't even achieve that

In retrospect making the Wii weaker than the fucking Classic Xbox was an interesting move.

Skyward Sword wouldn't have released with that awful impressionist art-style that it uses so it would've been a net gain for humanity. I support the motion.

So you're basically asking to be on par with the PS3 because HD at playable frame rates was what it did for 2006 standards.
The Wii would've have changed the market nor the industry if it was an overclocked PS2

The Wii wasn't even two GameCubes taped together. It was basically the same tech but with waggle. The prototypes were all GameCube hardware but with gimmick controllers. It was honestly genius.

Just not attach rate. Wii is the definition of flash in the pan, of a fad. It's a shame too so many excellent Japanese developers lost it all on there because Nintendo kept pitching to them "duhhh wii sports and mario kart sold well so you should have no problem!" then internal politics from Nintendo fucked them hard. Great studios went out of business, some entire left the console scene and now just make mobile games.

Sad shit. Wii really did destroy the games industry and not enough people point it out.

HDMI is a meme.
PS3/360 could not handle 7th gen AAA multiplats at all and massively kneecapped every aspect of anything they did get their grimy fingers on, so that was basically worthless unless you were a dudebro with shit taste and literal rock-bottom standards, even PC ports could not save those multiplats because they made so many compromises for bad console hardware.
What the Wii needed was for it to launch with a better gyro instead of needing to wait for Motion+, and it needed to have fully remappable controls so that it wasn't at the mercy of pajeets figuring out the best layout and just including arbitrary waggle.

forcing full HD as the standard would lose them their competitive edge and what made wii games feel simple and nostalgic in a good way.
Would make game development way more pricey, so no shovelware and no porting or offshots of every game property ever.
Hardware would cost more too.
Would be a failure of a console.

if all nintendo consoles after the N64 had the same power as the consoles they came after, paying for nintendo consoles would feel like less of a scam
>if the gamecube released with the power of the wii in 2001
their gap in power isn't much but it would definitely help keep up with the PS2, the extra ram would definitely have helped
>if the wii released with the power of the Wii U in 2006
no need for downgraded ps2/wii ports, more ps3/360 ports with wii specific controls
>if the wii u released with the power of the Switch in 2013
this one is iffy since both the Wii U and Switch were weaker than the PS4, BUT the Wii U would have stood a better chance than it did
>if the Switch released with the power of the Switch 2 in 2017
It would actually earn its title as the best selling console of all time and likely still be Nintendo's primary console

Given that this thing started the decline of sony and microsoft, changing the specs to make it less affordable would have only hurt it.

What games did the Wii even have? It seemed like mostly waggle slop.
Even the first party games were shit.
