The fact that people are stating that Max Payne 3 was better than 2 shows you how moronic this board actually is. This was still the point of where Max FX engine wasn't completely downgraded for consoles (aka Alan Wake). As such, you can do quick snap aim shooting like so that only works with proper mouse aim. And using RAGE for MP3 was a complete downgrade and sluggish shit. Felt liek Uncharted crap designed for consoles. I can level with the critques that the story beats interrupted Payne 2 far too often. But i don't see the gameplay itself as downgraded.

Complaining about slow motion in Payne is kind of just shooting yourself in the foot in general. You may as well call the bullet time genre a gimmick at that stage and that would have to include Payne 1 being a gimmick.

Slow motion was nowhere as OP in MP1 as it was in MP2
It was a combat option to be aggressive, but you could waste half of it chambering a shot.
Max Payne 2 just obsessively pushed on the muh cinematic slow motion shooter thing and is a moviegame more than it is a game, which is why it foregoes game design and balance and Max can suddenly leak 20 feet into the air with 12 hours of slow motion airtime

I always assumed story wise that Max was just more skilled in the second game, which is why he's able to move and shoot faster. It's definitely not OP to the point where it nullifies the difficulty. Running into a room full of mooks is still going to result in a quick death and you have to plan out your kill streak just like in the first game. Unlike the first game however, you don't have to cheese the game due to it's haphazard design. In MP1 unless you're landing perfect headshots, enemies can just tank shotgun blasts, uzis to the back, etc. It's ridiculous. Weapons feel real in Max Payne 2 and the ragdoll physics gave them weight.

It was funny playing 1 and I was thinking "man, i wonder why remedy's games never really took off like max payne 1 cause this game is fucking tight"
Then i played 2 and it made sense. MP2 honestly might be one of the first games to do that shit where the narration incessantly tells the player what to do. Like when mona has to get the sniper to help max, he just keeps repeating it again and again.
And yeah challenge is non existent in 2, it is such an easy game. 3 with the cutscene skip mod is much better and ridiculously punishing at times.
One of very few examples where the player feels just as fragile as the hundreds of enemies you are fighting and its like youre constantly brushing with death.
Almost like MP1.
