Its simplicity makes it better than its sequels. No mini games bullshit. No special abilities that arbitrarily block that path or anything. Just pure platforming. I think it might be some of the best games to get into videogames, too. Like baby's first game. It's not overly difficult but it does have some tricky situations (like keeping up the speed in the tree level).

I don't know about best but Spyro 1 is certainly the comfiest. It's extremely laid back, no distractions, no NPCs, no upgrades you need to get for 100%.
