Fatal Frame 2 is my favorite game in the series but it's too easy imo.

Fuck no. It's THE worst one in the OG FF trilogy by far. Too easy, not scary, repetitive x infinitum.

FF1 was much more terrifying and had the classic RE1 style exploration.
FF3 felt like a long lost Silent Hill title that wrapped things up nicely. It also has the best gameplay.

All of them still pale in comparison to Silent Hill 1.

At the end of the day, however, Resident Evil 1, 1996, is the quintessential horror game, and the one to do the whole genre's tropes the best. It's simply game-design masterpiece.

RE1 is more of a puzzle game, FF and others are actually scary

>RE1 is more of a puzzle game
That's literally what survival horror games are by their very OG definition, young one:

Adventure games, with heavy focus on exploration and problem solving.

I've been playing Resident Evil 1 og a lot the past couple weeks. I played it before a long time ago but only once as Jill and got the worst ending.
I'm growing to love the game a lot. Especially as I moved to the Director's Cut version and am now playing Advanced mode which is a cool addition.
The first RE game I played was the remake of RE1, but I think I like the original more now. The gameplay and level design is top notch, and I really like the original art and animations.

>FF and others are actually annoying

Fixed, FF is not a scary game, just tedious.

Can't be perfect when it's almost brainlessly easy which results in no tension. Also the story is incredibly overrated with an even dumber ending than 1 had.

I'm an oldfag RE-fan, and I agree.
I adore the REmake 1, it's all everyone has ever wanted from a proper game remake, but it's just not fun to replay. It no joke restricts players more than the OG.

Yeah I didn't notice it at first but I did confirm it after replaying both versions a few times. There are a few more additions to the remake that become tiresome on replays.
I won't repeat what's been said a thousand times already but one example are the inconsistent shotgun headshots.
Another one of my main issues is the color palette of the game being very drab.

The impeccable design of RE1 is almost baffling. Right out the gate they managed to perfect the formula, and create a survival horror game that is unbelievably well balanced, far more so than anything released after. How did they do it?
