>no over leveling
>no summons
>refined gameplay balanced around everybody using the same weapon
>everyone has the same experience as the developer intended
>a coherent world
>memorable characters
>quests you can actually complete without consulting a guide
>fun vertical movement that allows for interesting secrets
Am i being a contrarian if i say Sekiro is the best one?

Demon's Souls (2009) is the best one.

Sekiro is my favorite fromsoft game, but it unironically has MUCH worse balancing than every game of the souls series

Lets just start with the prosthetics and CAs
>Prosthetics and CAs are a huge part of the fun and moveset of the game, but they feel so shit early game that half the people end up doing L1 R1 / LMB RMB for the entire game or just few cheesy uses
>Many people mistakenly think they are just hardcounter gimmicks because of how bad their introduction is
>Tons of prosthetics start abysmally poor at their weaker versions, such as the Axe which will deal shit damage outside of shields, or the spear, while others like Flame Vent are obscenely overpowered right off the bat
>The damage balancing of many prosthetics/combat arts is downright retarded
>Only 1 combat art slot, and then you have shit like Mortal Draw competing with some cool dynamic shit like Nightjar Slash
>Sometimes a skill is so poorly balanced that the best way to use it is awkward (ex : spam the first two attacks of One Mind instead of actually finishing it)
>Sometimes you have skills like Floating Passage where landing the full combo may as well be weaker than just having attacked normally

And then the core normal combat
>Vitality damage is important but sometimes way too much on the backseat
>Doing some cool shit like using Whirlwind Slash to duck under an attack and regain the offense may as well be a scam because you would make more progress just generically pressing parry then attacking normally
>Mikiri Counter is cool and satisfying, but also retardly high posture damage vs bosses for how comically large the timing is

And then some silly oversights like poison not scaling and falling off in ng+
Like yeah souls has silly OP builds, but shit always works and never feels terrible. Sekiro is an easier game to balance in the first place and stuff like early game axe, first version of spear etc is unforgivable

It's too stressful. I feel like I'm missing secrets at every turn even though 95% of the time I'm not.

All true unfortunately. The prosthetics are dogshit. They could have added a lot to the flat gameplay but instead it really is just an l1 simulator

Nobody plays like that.
