The Octopath games are divisive because of looks and I understand that, but if you can get past it then the second one was my personal favorite game of that year. I couldn't recommend that game enough, especially if you're one to get lost in worldbuilding.

I don't mind it that much, but cutscene remover is like a run full of OOB. Yeah it goes faster and there is more action, but most viewers completely loses track of what is happening. Very confusing to have a fight in the forest, then you're suddenly fighting on the airship, and then you're in the city. The core appeal of speedruns is seeing a game you know being beaten fast, this raises the barrier of being able to follow what is happening. And OOB runs at least have the excuse of being done with in-game glitches, cutscene remover is a mod. If you allow mods to speed up the game, the line of what is acceptable becomes pretty blurry. Like why not install a mod to speed up all battle animations by 10x. Or a mod that increases walking speed. And why not a mod to remove random encounters, since you run from every one. Drawing the line at cutscenes is pretty arbitrary And not like cutscenes are completely timewasting in the run, since they are the perfect time for the runner to explain different strats or just have some banter.

Get ready for a fair few "apparently"s because most of the results I got looking into this were r/speedrun redditors mentioning GDQ's claims while not giving a source. It's probably honest recounting though, it's understandable not to bother giving a source when it's probably buried 6 hours into a Pokemon run with a 5 hour estimate.

They apparently used rotating dual setups for the first time in the year of our lord 2024's AGDQ. If they're still using rotating setups, they don't deserve that leeway since they should have most stuff set up already, and if they're not using rotating setups anymore, they deserve shit for not using rotating setups now.
Also in looking for that information, I saw a lot of ledditors praising them for better setup times and audio levels in said event (who'd have thought!) AND that GDQ staff apparently claimed at least a year prior that it wouldn't be faster to do dual setups. (Load of shit IMO, though it might be true that it takes longer if you're terrible at your job.)

Ironic that the speedrun marathon can't optimize its fucking setups.
