It depends on what you're after if you want to play the latest AAA at ultra/medium settings dont bother

The steam deck is an accessory for your main pc its when you dont want to sit at your pc to play shit like Rimworld or something and want to lay comfy in bed its a good backlog killer I use it to play ps2/ps3/xbox 360/old mid 2000s/mid 2010s games that I never played
>TLDR: Good for emptying out your backlog bad if you wanna play Cyberpunk 2077 at ultra 120fps

i love my Deck but it's starting to age out now. if you're realistic about performance and only want to play older or indie games, it's really nice. if you want to play anything AAA, i'd look at the Z2E options from the other brands. but overall AAA games are a bad experience in handheld mode anyway, so to me it's not an issue.

also consider getting one used (or from the Steam refurbs when they're in stock), you can get an LCD for like $200 these days.

I rarely play games that I need keyboard + mouse for, I also want to emulate switch and older consoles and I heard you could use the steam deck for that

Want to play the biggest backlog ever? Don't play AAA shit?
>>715258812
Deck is an open platform that lets you do anything whereas Shitch 2 is as kiked as it gets.

Then get one but use the other anon's advice its super easy to find LCD decks for great prices just make sure you're looking at trustworthy places people are selling their decks to get Rog Allys and shit so you can find em for cheap but yeah its extremely good for emulation and its a great backlog killer

it entirely depends on your taste in games and how you like to play them. mine has pretty much replaced all my other consoles entirely
>>715258998
switch is hit or miss and even some ps3 games dont necessarily run well.

Yes, I'm waiting for the Steam Deck 2 though since it should be out some time in 2027. Might as well.

Yes. Although that new Lenovo Go S which has SteamOS is probably a better buy if you don't want to wait for Steam Deck 2. Simply because it performs around 10%-20% better apparently, so more games are playable.

Personally, I find the battery life pretty good even in the LCD model. But I don't play demanding games. Most shit I play is playable with TDP limited to 6-7W or 11W in the worst case. And even on max TDP it's consistently getting around 2 hours of playtime, which is enough.

You do realize *most* games aren't unoptimized slop?
>for everything from last gen and before, yes
"Everything" is a strong word considering there are many older games which can't be played on the Steam Deck.

A lot of Switch games are playable, but not all of them. Basically anything that's 3D is a hit or miss. If I remember correctly, Super Mario Odyssey is barely playable while Smash Bros, Crash Nitro Fueled and Mario Kart work fine.
