As someone that plays both and likes both, I have no idea how you could ever think that Yugioh wasn't designed worse. The game barely even functions and is held together with turn 0 and instant OTTK duct tape

Play Magic the Gathering Forge, you can find it for absolutely free on github and it's THE best way to play modern magic right now.
alternatively play Magic the Gathering Shandalar (2016 modded version, you can find a link to it in vee archives IIRC but I recommend Forge over that unless you want to play old magic)
Stay far away from Arena and other online MtG games. Maybe the early 2010s Planeswalker games are fine too, but the rest is total garbage or ridiculously predatory.

Emulate a PSP and play TagForce 1,2,3
Play the Joey the Passion trilogy games (really outdated, but good music and visuals like you'd expect from YGO, you might need compatibility patches for those)
Master Duel is okay but it still has predatory practices and while I'm okay with that in terms of physical cards for both YGO and MtG, I find it appalling in digital card games, so I'd also advise against it even if it's the best bet for modern YGO.

Its really bad when your options are a simulator where you have to call a judge and keep 100% attention so your opponent does not cheat, playing offline games, or just coping with gacha mechanics

right now the game runs at 144fps for me, and my pc is ancient. it's not like you need to run it at more than 30 or whatever, I'm sure everyone will be fine
