what was the fucking need to make this game open world? linear world (ds3) or semi open (ds1) would be better.

It gives more freedom and looks gorgeous. Elden Ring did it right.

ER is a living proof that Soulsborne design only works in a linear "metroidvania" style. It is one of the most pointless, the most tedious and fuglies OW games ever made.

Honestly the game is only truly open in liurnia, outside of that one area it's just a very convincing illusion.

Why do people so often speak about Elden Ring as an "open world" game let alone cry about it?
Yeah you can leave Limgrave right at the start if you insist on running past all the enemies on the roads or through the eastern forest. But the only options you've really got are Caelid and Liurnia. Or the southern peninsula of Limgrave if you were to count the Weeping Peninsula as its own thing.
There is Siofra's River, which is rad but it's ultimately just another road to Caelid. And for Liurnia there is the path through the castle and the path around the broken bridge.

There are bottle necks and designed paths and sections that the game bottle necks you through no matter your chosen paths. And ruins and hazards on the way to said paths.
It's really weird to me that people complain about Elden Ring being "open world". Especially when Dark Souls 1 is more open than Elden Ring. But people don't complain about Dark Souls being open world. Because you don't have a horse?
