>developer makes a successful game and starts to appeal to a wider audience for the sequel to people that are not really interested in that type of game and in the processes pisses off the fans of the original game.
Must the line always go up exponentially? Why can't you be happy with 2 million sales why must it always be 4 million next time and then 8 million after that?

Welcome to modern day capitalism. If you ever worked in any field where you spoke with a "Corporate" you will quickly understand why this happens.

Shareholders. Games aren't made by nerdy white men out of love for gaming much anymore. It's mostly done out of profit but also occasionally for pushing agendas.

Business uses money and success to borrow more money. Borrow 1 million dollars, game makes 2 million dollars use success and collateral to now borrow 2 million dollars now game needs to make 4 million dollars use profits and sucess to borrow 4 million dollars etc etc.... Always omit that you're giving yourself million dollar raises.

yes this is how the system is supposed to work (it does not)
at least 7% growth. meaning you need to produce/sell 7% more or do everything 7% more efficiently/with less staff.
"how often can you let go of 7% of the workforce until we start running into problems" is the question nearly every company has been testing year after year.
once every country exports more then it imports the world will be a paradise.

Pursuit of money driven by constantly having to improve for stockholders. Everything and everything will be a franchise from the start, everything will be designed with sequels and merchandise in mind, and everything will eventually get a shitty sequel that no one wanted.
