Why did they sacrifice Tony Hawk 4 on the altar, instead of Tony Hawk 3. I would rather they add a story mode and free roam to the third game, instead of removing it from the fourth game.

I stopped at Tony Hawk 3 as they changed grind, manual thing and what it felt like being more slower than the second game, even if I tried the sweaty hands way I could not fathom how shit it was

After Skate I struggled to return to Tony Hawk. I guess I just liked the more "sim" aspects of that game. Hell I'd rather return to Thrasher Skate and Destroy then any Tony Hawk.

because 3+4 was a salvaged project, it being released was nothing short of a miracle

>instead of Tony Hawk 3
3 is close enough to 1+2 to have been a DLC. 4 has been totally and entirely gutted, on the other hand. The whole thing just feels like a cash grab at this point and I'd be excruciatingly doubtful they'll continue with a THUG+THUG2 remaster since it'd be inexcusable to not include their story modes.

Because THPS3 is factually one of the greatest games ever made, and they would do well to honor its legacy than to do 4, which in hindsight polarized a lot of people with a formula that Underground expanded and perfected upon.

Having said that, they did over-tune Foundry a bit with all the unnecessary exploding shit.

I was going to write a similar reply. While the modern devs might not be on the level of Neversoft, still it's obvious that the project got paused and resumed and cancelled and fucked in every way plenty of times so it makes it harder to work on the project. Even still, the original games were always made in 1 year span, but they very likely didn't get constantly fucked with.

Vicarious Vision and Beenox were working on it right after 1+2 released, then Activision happened

how did Iron Galaxy got involved in this is a mystery, since they are a private company

Yeah I haven't researched it a lot but you get the picture that a thps3 dlc for 1+2 was like 90% ready 5 years ago or so and then activision just said fuck you. Now they salvaged the project and it seems like they are genuinely trying to make a good game even if their vision and abilities lack. I seriously doubt there are too many people who even played the original games, it's like they are trying to google translate the original games while remaking them.

Butchered remakes are butchered remakes, doesn't matter how good the original game was.

They just didn't want to program that shit, and instead of fixing luge or baseball they just removed them.
Rumor is Tony Hawk is the one who asked the devs to change the soundtrack.

I grew up with 3 and 4, and honestly played 4 way more despite knowing its structure is a bit gimped by today's standards and the sequels. Yeah, I'm gonna be mad when besides the edge and fratboy-isms they kept 3 intact while not only gutting 4's design but even removing a couple levels to throw some new shit on top.

is the 4 remake still worth playing?

the funny thing is the structure of programming is literally already there. the tutorial that they reused from 1+2 can stop you, play voiced dialogue, it isn't hard to program special cameras, they got waypoints, tricks to pull off by task command, etc. and then they recreated a number of the "big objectives" for 4's levels anyway. the most work they would've had to do is get more voice acting for things, since they modeled various people and pedestrians already, and then set up when some of the objects they placed on the levels appear conditionally.

there's no excuses but simply deciding to cut the budget short arbitrarily and some exec or dipshit higher up wanting to keep the career mode one "consistent" experience, by not having to go any further than their copypaste of 1+2's stuff.

For real. I've never seen anybody prefer Tony Hawk after trying Skate. It nails actual skateboarding so well.
