It was a code word for niggers, but hardly anybody remembers now. In the way WAY back people would say joggers as a code word for nigger in multiplayer. Twitch and lets players popularized poggers as a contraction for "punch joggers," which then lead to "pog champ" and the like.

Do you have any sources to back that up? I have never ever heard of that being the origin of the term. I used to watch very few league streams in ~2012-2013 but I've never heard someone saying "punching joggers".
I'm aware of jogger = nigger mind you, but never heard "punching joggers" or it contracting into "poggers"
