It's a peak midwit game. Turn your brain off and you'll enjoy it but start asking questions like "what does the world map actually look like" and it all falls apart

i just started playing this, i don't really like how there's so much surface bs, is that the whole game?
other than that i definitely prefer the character sheets/builds over the dnd 5e slop from bg3

>surface bs
Sometimes there are clouds too, like if you cast a fire spell on wet ground. Then you can cast a light ing spell to make it a shock cloud.

If your first reaction to an ice surface is "wow my characters are all slipping this is so annoying" instead of "I should craft these nails into my boots" or "I should cast a fire spell on the ice surface to melt it into a wet surface" then you're unironically a low IQ getting filtered.

Yes, surface interactions are a core part of the combat system and represent some of the strongest damage and CC opportunities.

Only time dealing with surfaces gets annoying is during the black tar fight with the necro slimes

I will defend that fight because it's a memorable ball buster that is very satisfying to beat.

Ranged weapons are too good in that game. Even if you don't abuse elemental arrows and explosive barrels, even the tankiest elite bosses can get taken out in a couple of attacks from an archer on an elevated position.

SHINING LIGHTS or the Scarecrow jumpscare are good ball busters, the Necro slimes are annoying because they shart out cursed surfaces just by moving and you have the (optional) objective of keeping alive a suicidal retard npc.

Fight would be fine if it didn't involve cursed surfaces, I get that the idea is to use bless but doing so is a waste of source because the slimes passively spread them anyway, you get to the fight before you're conceivably able to learn the twister spell too

The most fun I had in this game was playing undead and realizing I could Shackles of Pain something then glug glug health potions to kill myself and the enemy. Especially because for some reason it lagged the fuck out of the game.

But also, Act 4 fucking sucked so bad that it erases any desire I have to ever play it again.

Act 4 is an 8/10, it only seems weak compared to the 10/10 to 11/10 that is the rest of the game

>character sheets/builds
There are no builds here you dummy
Its just a stat check system.
No classes in the game, just read the spell book to unlock the spells and then boost the damage by increasing the corresponding stat, its a lame system for rpg building.

Nahhhh... "that part" sections like that are frustrating at the time but they are very memorable and you look back on them fondly. Devs being so afraid to have a single controversial or frustrating section are how you get homogenized, inoffensive, sterile experiences that are so common with modern slop gaming

There are plenty of "That part" sections in the game, even the final boss battles are a "That part" section depending on how you play out the penultimate dialogue choice, none of them are as annoying as the necroslimes purely because they passively spread a cursed surface everywhere.

I agree to a certain degree. But I kinda want to say that I'm not a fan of games where you have to understand deep and complicated math. Like calculating damage numbers with their formulas while building a character.

I played some Path of Exile a while back, and there were literally gear item descriptions that sounded like a negative effect, but in reality it had an opposite effect. It's just such a headache to try and play games that requires extreme math knowledge.

I wanna go back to finish this game because playing on tactician was fun but the Kraken fight filtered me so hard I saw no way of overcoming it as opposed to all the other fights in the game

It's literally optional tho

plus by act 4 you have tea leaves and some insane ability combos, maybe try going back once you've leveled up some
