It's the MMORPG entry in the SMT series, developed by CAVE. It features demon recruitment, fusion mechanics, and an alignment system. The game shut down in January 2014.

From what I remember from playing years ago you run around with one active demon and you can attack and do stuff and so can they. The music was real great. I enjoyed myself for three days then never touched it again.

I wanted to play this shit sooo bad back in the day (and i did a bit), but now it looks like absolute ass nowadays.. besides SMT5V already has a shitload of demons to mess with (especially with the extra demons mod).

Yeah, they've rebalanced the game to try and make all classes more viable. I don't think there's any servers online that offer a completely vanilla experience.

to this day it was the most expensive MMO i've ever seen. you had to buy fortune cards to get a chance at the decent gear, and almost always end up with shitty mats. there were campaigns like spend 200 bucks get one ticket, and they mismanaged the hell out of that too. this was before granblue's monkeygate so it was lawless

Important notes:
If your demon becomes a higher level than you, don't unsummon it. You won't be able to summon it again until you meet its level.
You can get a Material tank to store some mats in north of Suginami by talking to DB Harumi about deconstructing.

Game looks like it has depth and has a ton of progression systems and mechanics. Just like I'd expect from my Japanese games.
