Fun 4 player shooty game. Decent music. Lots of customization that you probably won't mess around with too much.
Extremely kino post-game.

The campaign is fun enough but it's on you to not use cheese strategies. You can just Sword Storm literally everything up until the endgame. In order to have fun against the singleplayer opponents you have to handicap yourself or use builds that are fun rather than optimal.

My favorite thing I remember about this game was... The generic NPCs are not actually generic. Spend time to talk to all of them after every event to start to learn how to tell them all apart. They all look the same but they each have different backstories and goals. You actually start to learn how to tell who is who whenever you talk to them. Also I learned later this is actually Custom Robo 4 but they just called it Custom Robon for the West. It explains somethings. At the same time though some of the stuff was more fun not knowing. It's also short. It's like a JRPG but no EXP or money grinding whatsoever and no repeat battles so just play it. It's like a goofy Saturday morning action cartoon.

God I really hope it does. I'd buy a switch 2 if they bring back more gamecube games.
Emulation so far has been a little goofy with this, since the game will randomly shrink or the camera will bug out for a second, it's kinda hard to explain
So far, the story is really FAST, and I like it a lot!

Japan only N64 games I think. Been awhile since I've read about it. I think there were 1 or 2 DS games after that and that's just been it sadly. I have only played Custom Robo (Gamecube). It is an interesting series but it seems to be niche even in Japan.

It’s a well made game, this is the type of game that died at some point during the mid 2000s. Interesting premise fun gameplay good atmosphere unique experience AA mid level studio title. They fucked up not making another one for the Wii or the switch. Just a DS game.

I only played arena, but if that one is like arena, then the game will be fun, you basically customize your own toy robot and kill other toy robots, the plot is probably something stupid like terrorists trying to take over the world by using toy robots as weapons.

IMO it takes a while before you get the fun robos and weapons (and I'm not talking about the illegal parts, those are just overpowered.)
This is still a fun (if initially easy) experience.
I'm a huge sucker for the Swift Little Raider paired with the shotgun but I wouldn't be surprised if that was an overdone/overrated combo.
Lightning Sky Defender is also just nice in general.

I thinkg the game might have some really weird dynamic resolution that's kinda fucked up in Dolphin's default settings. Click on Graphics, and then set the aspect ratio to Force 4:3 to fix this.

Also Marcia is really fucking cute and it's a shame nobody knows about her anymore, or will just see her as a Miku knockoff, even though she actually predates Miku.

Hidden gem because the localizers completely ignored the actual tone of the game with that box art change. It doesn't even take place on Earth, much less the US...

I didn't think the illegal parts were that OP for the most part aside from Rahu III and arguably Ray Legend. I actually remembered being kinda disappointed at how mediocre Rakansen or whatever the illegal Strike Vanisher was called felt after using Javelin for most of the game

I guess it just depends on how your parts are set up. I never really could figure out bombs and pods too well, it's like they always felt like they were more there to control the enemy's movement instead of actually do damage Anyway, Lightning Skys cancelling out movement lag with certain guns like Afterburner always felt fantastic to me, just about as fun as the up close Little Raider

Nah you're not crazy, I had the exact same thought playing AC6. Something about the crisp dashes, the rhythm of locking onto dudes in mid-air, and the whole flow of boosting through 1v1 duels just *feels* like a grown-up Custom Robo. The difference is CR slapped you in a tiny arena and called it a day, then AC6 shows up with anime-ass missile barrages and tells you to surf a burning battleship. Honestly if FromSoft put a Ray 01 decal in game it would’ve been over for me.
