does xenosaga even have a good story compared to xenogears? whenever I watch playthroughs it seems super campy, but I haven't gotten to 2 and 3 yet. Love the OST though

Was never a sequel. It's as much a sequel as Nier is a "sequel" to Drakengard.

cross's biggest flaw is trying to tie itself to trigger which mugs up the story it was building to that point and the clear time crunch towards the end leading to the cut content and exposition
it's not perfect but its good fun if you glaze over the rougher edges

picrel is SO kino even with Crono, Marle, and Luca shoehorned in. The Dead Sea is such a gorgeous zone, as is the high tech base you visit before fighting Fate. Then all the low tech stuff like the fishing villages were so kino too.

Mine would be banjo-tooie. I can't replay it or get through it, it just sucks compared to Kazooie.

its a fantastic collection of set pieces and locations that are amazing on their own but fail to cohesively link together to tell a story that doesn't break apart the moment you stop and think about what is happening for longer than 2 seconds
Agree on the high tech stuff, Dead Sea was absolutely my favorite dungeon from the game, fantastic vibes and music.
I still also love the starting village and the beach. beautiful world

I have a dream.
That one day every person in this nation will pop open their own flavor.
A nation of the truly fizzy, dammit. A nation of action, not just empty cans, ruled by sparkle, not committee!
Where the recipe changes to suit the individual, not the other way around.
Where the power and the bubbles are back where they belong, in the hands of the people!
Where every person is free to fizz, to burst, for themselves!
Fuck all these flat, sugar free lawyers and tasteless bureaucrats.
Fuck this 24-hour Internet stream of watered down trivia and artificial celebrity bullshit!
Fuck national pride! Fuck the media! FUCK ALL OF IT!
America is flat. Syrupy at the core. There’s no reviving it, we need to shake it up from the bottom. Wipe the counter clean.
CRACK IT OPEN! And from the pop and fizz, a new America will be born. Evolved, but untamed!
The weak bubbles will burst and the strongest will rise, free to fizz as they see fit.
They’ll make America refreshing again!

Replayed the hd collection recently and I don’t know if DMC2 really qualifies for ‘most disappointing’. Sure it’s a bad game with the obvious development disaster, but the turnaround from 2 to 3 makes that a lot less of a big deal in the long run.

That's just not true. Trigger was pure Kino. Cross tried to be some le grand adventure with a ton of playable characters but then I cared about none of them.

le tears of a clown, or something.

I feel like clowns are underappreciated. Kefka from FF6 had an iconic laugh and was an amazing villain but isn't part of the zeitgeist of video game villains like say a Sephy or even Sin

based. linear doesn't mean bad. some of the most beloved games are tight, focused experiences. everyone pretends they want "freedom" until they get 80 hours of empty open space and fetch quests. give me comfy towns, memorable setpieces, and a BGM that slaps any day.

DMC2 is a good game and every DMC after it has followed the format.
