I know some people will hit me with "git gud" I know I'll git gud eventually, but this is pain bros... anyone else here had this same problem? I already tried 1v2 and 1v3 on medium difficulty and it's still way easier than hard difficulty.

only problem i ever have is in 4v4 teamgames with and against ai. enemy AI will coordinate, boom, and make a lot of military while friendly ai just fucking sucks. i think buffing handcannoneers a little more would go a long way to help me carry my shitty AI teammates.

i struggle with the campaign on easy. i've been playing gookclick games regularly since 1997 and have yet to acquire even a shred of proficiency beyond understanding how a tech tree works and a vague, nebulous understanding of how some unit types are better than others

I don't think they changed how that works because Starwars Galactic Battle Grounds has the same thing. When playing against AI it gives them a random personality and one of them is always a more passive AI.

AOE 3 had great single player skirmish. I could only beat medium AI at first, but I built my way up to tougher difficulties once I had better shipment cards.

If you want to fine-tune the difficulty start the game with a stopwatch and give the computer opponent a head start while you do nothing.

They massively overhauled the ai in each 'new' version (aka just a a new scam version) to avoid 'le cheese' of the constrained AI

They've worked with speed runners to eliminate most options

Either get a proper trainer that lets you have infinite population and use a mod that gives you infinite resources from gold/stone mines or else just accept you need to save scum more than RTS games from the 90s

Hard AI is very to win if you can resist until late castle/imperial because they stop making villagers at around 75 and you heavily outmacro it due to that

that was me, I then went and played ranked and by the time I tried ai again extreme was too easy
