There's something incredibly...sad about this genre of game. It's like for kids who can't cut it in actual competitive games that are based around skill so they scurry to these games where winning is based on who's been in the server longer rather than any kind of mechanical skill. It'd be one thing if it was treated like a party game, like a Mario Kart/Party type deal, but you realize there are people who take it hyper seriously and base their entire personalities around it, unable to recognize the fact no one is impressed and everyone is just sort of laughing at them from across the pond.

I don't think of it as the same type of competitive game, it's a digital LARP playground. There are no rounds or winners, just people pretending to be african warlords.

it's an anti social game that lets everyone harass each other. even the new players can be a headache to those mega bases

i love haven and hearth for being an open world survival game that i can actually enjoy, but that involves avoiding everyone else. the pvp autists on the forum are insufferable.

Yeah I actually gave rust a shot a few months back, made a base, died some times, didnt think much of it until there was a guy camping outside my door for over an hour, yes an hour, I could tell because the campfire comfort trick (it goes higher the more people nearby).
So I just went on my phone, alt tabbed, etc, and he actually sat there with a gun for over an hour waiting for me to exit, he knew I couldn't defend myself because my house was very basic and just stone, and finally I got bored and just went out and he instantly killed me and he raided my basis for...some wood, stone and cloth, over an hour of his life gone for the slightest drip of dopamine to one tap someone who couldn't defend themselves, I don't think I ever experienced something so pathetic in my life

I actually did other stuff like my dailies in ZZZ, talked with friends, and worked on a video commission, so you almost had a point there.
Meanwhile he had to be sitting there staring at the door the entire time because the second I opened it he fired with no delay.

It's like it's a trend for non-competitive games to be some new gay esport, with picrel being one of the more egregious examples
>don't build a base the way YOU see fit, you HAVE to follow the meta or else you'll get raided!!
>don't interact with anybody outside of PvP EVER, you'll just loose your shit!!
>don't bother trying to team up with randoms on the server, just kill them and take their shit!!
For what something be incredibly fun, it really falls flat

It's actually like a mad max sandbox playground. It's not anti-social or prosocial. Rust is what you make of it.

There's like 150~ concurrent players so unless you're on central continent or extremely unlucky you won't meet anyone at all
