too hard to make anything noteworthy on your own. there are just too many indie games. you've had a much better chance if you started in the 2000s or early 2010s. you're late to the party.

I have many ideas, but they're all half-baked and would be implemented poorly as I lack the skill to realize them. Even then, the chance that the odd thing I thought sounded neat would actually be enjoyed by more than a few people is slim. "I am not an artist but know what I like", but that doesn't mean I understand what I like well enough to iterate on it.

I kinda wanted to make a game but I wanted it to be in my engine. I thought, if I made it open-source then Stallman surely will personally show up and help with the hard parts. NO one showed up to help with the buggy mess even tho I made it open-source...

Anon's mistake is initial capital in the creation of the game. Forming an LLC is like $200, listing your game on Steam is $500. You only need 50000 wishlists if after all that your game's budget is like $100k or more. Ya'll motherfuckers don't know the meaning of "start small". If you're just now forming the LLC then it is likely your first commercial game. Which means you should be spending like $10k MAX to make it, and honestly probably not even that much.

>Forming an LLC is like $200,
That depends on your state. All states require an upfront payment ranging from $35 to $500, while some also require a monthly payment which can range from $20 to $500 per month, with fucking California demanding $800 monthly.
I live in Pennsylvania, so I'd only have to pay a one time fee of $100 with no monthly.
If you want to start a business, do so while not living in a trash state.

Because i'm not suitable for solo dev process, and i'm not nearly motivated enough to make a serious multi-people project. I was making all kinds of shit in unity, and every time it was ending up in the exact same way
>write logic for gameplay gimmick i was interested in
>now it's time for boring parts
>struggle through boring parts, sometimes even successfully
>now it's time to replace placeholders with actual stuff and fill the game with content
>near instant surrender
I'm just not cut out for it. I lack motivation to finish the entire thing, various aspects of the game that don't interest me are always half-assed, and that's an issue when the game itself is not the part of the project i'm interested in. Once you see half-assed results of your work, it's hard to keep believing it has any worth whatsoever.

but i've made some money on selling one of my miraculously finished gimmicks on asset store, that felt nice

I did make a game. It sold only 800 copies despite being a masterpiece because I don't want to live on twitter and reddit posting it constantly. No game journalist covered it. I have to price it low because that's what is expected from indies (while AAA can charge faggots whatever they want), and then I get raped by steam fees.

I'm making a feature length animated movie instead of a game. Nearly done with it as well after like 4 years of work. I'm happy with it and even if it doesn't end up doing that great, at least I know I'm able to get long projects like these done through to the end and that I learnt a lot working on this, so the next project should probably be easier and faster to do.

Is there a cloud-based engine? Where me and my buddy can edit simultaneously? Or at least something that is braindead for one of us to save and then for the other to pick up and edit. I'll use git if I'm forced to, but teaching him it is going to be a struggle.
