I dropped it early on because I absolutely hated the art style and character designs.

The 3D gimmick is a bit forced, the partners are not that interesting, and this game was the beginning of "Big Bang Theory"-type writing in Paper Mario games, which Origami King now is completely full of.

Still, it's the last Paper Mario game I feel comfortable recommending at least trying.

Agreed, you end up using Mario 99% of the game, switching to the other just for a specific moment, it feels tedious

It's actually really good storywise and musicwise, and the characters are really good, like Francis and Blumiere. The settings like Styx are fucking dope.
It's just a shame about the 3D mode and the partners not having much personality besides Timpani.
