It’s been 15+ years and WoW, RuneScape, and FF14 are still the only that actually matter. Nothing new even comes close. Every “next big MMORPG” is either some janky Unity indie with 12 players or a soulless Korean grindfest with autoplay and 18 currencies. And when it’s not that, it’s a gacha with stamina timers.
All that's left is just daily login rewards and skipping cutscenes in a theme park built for ADHD zoomers and whales
At this point I’m just rotating through old shit like a boomer.
That’s it. No savior MMO is coming. Ashes of Creation will die in EA.
Please prove me wrong, until then I’ll be in Lumbridge cutting trees and listening to sea shanty2 on repeat.

>No savior MMO is coming.
The Leagues of Legends MMO could be, if it ever leaves development hell.

>infinite funding
>incredible talent behind it
>made by a company that only produces massive hits
>already many years of pre-existing lore to work off of

But yes, until then it's just rotating through WoW (Classic) and OSRS for me as well. I have some hope for Classic+ being announced at September's Blizzcon, too. Maybe that'll revitalise Classic, it's getting very stale at this point.

I have never had a Ouija board in my house, and I NEVER WILL. There are just some things you should never mess with.

There is never going to another 'The Big MMO' unless there's some massive paradigm shift to bring down the cost to develop them. Like maybe after industry tools have adapted AI and proven to significantly reduce the amount of devs required.

>he couldn't perform 5 actions within the 0.6 second (tick) windows
Many such cases. The tick system somehow went from making the game "slow" and "easy", to genuinely skill intensive.

Mmos were NEVER good. Search your heart. They had some appeal when you were a child. As an adult you can recognize the obvious glaring flaws and shit gameplay.

Erenshor is great. Reminds me of playing EverQuest for the first time as a 12 year old. And without online fags, just bots that emulate them.

I started playing Project Gorgon a bit recently, and while it's pretty ugly and janky I see some SOVL in there. I should play it more.

There have been attempts, but they all sucked because the integration is still superficial.
Wait 25 more years for BCIs to become mainstream, then another 15 for companies to start developing software for them.

SS13 is not an RPG, it's a walking-talking simulator or as I've recently come to call it, a walkie-talkie.

Back in the day so many people were trying to make their own mmos. Today, you'll be told that making an mmo is IMPOSSIBLE it's IMPOSSIBLE don't even think about trying. But there were at least dozens of indie mmos coming out every year, practically every month (some are still around!). So what happened?
Well back then we had a bunch of competent, trained people in our tech industries making them in their spare time. Going into how gigantically western tech industries have been fucked since the 1990s is a conversation in itself. But basically all new mmos are from Asian countries because they go out out of their way to invest in people learning tech stuff for their economies. But the American tech industry was naturally emergent. So when everything got fucked there was nothing in place as a safety net (because that would have benefitted white guys). And then everyone jumped on the chance to lower costs by any means necessary. It's the same reason that there's been no actual tech innovation on a world scale. Every current thing is just slapping together things from the 1980s, even ai algorithms. Also why any new "innovation" sucks fucking ass.

Oh so the glorified shopping mall for wankers who cant hang out with people in real life is dead? And nothing of value was lost. Lets face it every game with multiplayer these days offers a better gaming experience than MMOs.

MMO scale compared to other live service games is very large.

Yes and they're all made by women and jeets. Oh and that's just the in-country teams. They outsource to the third world as much as possible.
