>>715351460It is racing on the roads that connect the tracks. They started being called intermissions since people thought you would race a course and then drive the intermission to the next course. Instead, the race between courses is about 70% of the race with a single lap on the real course. Since there are about 200 intermissions/connection roads, they are obviously less detailed or well planed compared to the main courses and many people started to find them boring.
Controversy happened because people realized they could choose random to avoid intermissions and play a full three laps on a regular course and Nintendo quickly patched it out. /v/ will now pretend that giving players less options on how they enjoy the game is a good thing with various fake arguments for fake discussion as you can see in this thread.
