I got into reading because I got an ereader. I now read most of the time. Weirdly enough it's more engaging than games. And I was never a reader in my life either.

It's an age thing. If you're in your 30s you will enjoy reading more than gaming. You need to actually try to give it a shot though.

What worked for me is piggybacking off of a different hobby. I'm learning German and immersion is a great way to learn. So now I put in an hour or two a day in some story game dubbed in German and it's like having that overarching meta-goal makes the game fun and not feel like a waste of time.

Other people play with friends or they invent their own goals like modding the game or speedrunning it or making a video essay about it, which adds an extra layer of meaning on top and makes it fun again.
