Has anyone ever thought about how useless the Switch and Switch 2's touchscreens are?
No game uses it and most people use their Switches docked anyway,.

No I don't think anyone ever has. It's not really something that people think about.
I mean most people think about food and stuff. Mostly food I believe. It is out sustance that keeps us alive. Sometimes it's potatoes sometimes it's rice. You get the drill.
So no, it sounds ludicrous that people would think if switch touchscreen is useful or not. Such a useless thing to use the little brain power we have. Maybe if we got drug that allocated more brain power to use, but that is just science fiction mostly. But who knows, humankind has developed all kinds of stuff over the decades it's been on this planet

It is useless. But what to expect from touchscreen on console that can be used without it. It's not like 3ds where you have dedicated space for touch controls
It would be harder for them to use a screen without touch controls since they get screens from budget chinese tablets.

Only six games used the IR sensors too. I predict the JC Mice will continue this. A couple games early on will take advantage of it and then they’ll be completely forgotten. Mouse controls are redundant when you have built in sticks and motion sensors. It’s very awkward to use on a couch. Absolutely nobody uses the Switch 2 in tabletop mode.

nintendo should design some touch centric games though, it's very silly they stopped with the DS
the 3ds didn't really use the stylus or touchscreen as much
just like nintendo kinda dropped motion controls after the wii, even though people liked them

I tolerated being forced to buy a screen I'd never use & swapping carts being a pain in the ass for the first switch because of the price but now thats been nullified.
If they ever make a screen free switch 2 at an appropriate price I'd buy one immediately but I doubt that'll happen unfortunately.

Not a lot of games utilize it given it would be something locked to handheld use, and the few that did on the switch were because of them being wii u ports like MK8DX. As per the dev interview they did actually consider dropping the touchscreen altogether for the switch 2 especially since mouse controls could serve as a replacement for that sort of thing but decided to keep it since it’d be a bit awkward for games that did use it to all of a sudden not be able to use it with the switch 2

Did you know that CP2077 on Switch 2 includes full keyboard and mouse support, identical to the PC version? You just plug them into the USB ports. The game even hot swaps between them and switches over all the button prompts like the PC version does. I would say it's likely that any game built for PC and ported to Switch 2 is going to include the mouse as an option. They already built those systems for the PC version, why would they strip them out when the Nintendo SDK makes it plug-and-play?

This is a short-sighted outlook in my opinion. Mouse controls compliment the touch screen, they aren't a good replacement considering they're awkward to use in handheld mode. Switch 1's touch screen created a parity issue between handheld and docked. Handheld had this pinpoint input, and the best equivalent docked had is gyro control. This is why the touchscreen was rarely used, developers had to assume you might be playing docked. But the mouse is close to a 1:1 equivalent to the touch screen for docked mode. I hope developers treat it that way, and start leveraging both more often.

It's the difference between a capacitive and a resistive touchscreen, they're two completely different touchscreen technologies. Modern phone and tablet touchscreens are capacitive and use the electrical resistance of your actual flesh to track where touch input is coming from, resistive touchscreens use friction and pressure. Resistive touchscreens are way better for dexterity applications like Nintendo DS games, your hand blocks your view and you have finer control with a thin stylus.

It’s an intuition thing. How many people do you know play almost exclusively handheld? Most people aren’t bringing their switches outside and when you’re home you might as well play docked to play on the big screen
Combined with you getting better performance docked anyway and the shitty battery life I don’t see why you would be playing undocked unless it’s the only option. Besides, where are YOU getting your supposed “official data”? No, your ass isn’t a source

>No game uses it and most people use their Switches docked anyway,.
i still don't understand why we don't have a "switch TV" that's just a consolized switch. the fact that people have already made their own consolized switches is enough evidence that there's a market for it.

they could bundle a pro controller with it and probably hit a $200 price point easily with a higher margin due to lower parts count.

the switch lite kind of ruined the whole point of the switch in the first place since it can't hook to a TV, not sure why we can't get the other extreme. my switch V2 has sat in its dock like 99% of its lifespan, not even sure if the battery still works.

if valve would just update the deck every node shrink and keep the form factor we wouldn't even be having this conversation, ironically.

but valve fucking hates money apparently, if it's not coming from steam. they couldn't even get a ryzen z2 out in time, MSI beat them.

so they are unfortunately waiting too long to iterate which means nintendo is calling the shots for them in terms of feature set to compete with. it's a bad strategy when you're valve and you don't have a whole bunch of software divisions to coordinate on the new hardware, if you're in the PC hardware market you have to have a superior produce specs-wise.

hopefully they shut me up by release a refreshed deck OLED in the next few months, maybe I will finally buy one. my switch is on ebay as we speak and I don't think i'll be returning to the nintendo ecosystem until they stop being corpo faggots about bricking consoles and using game cards and shit.

This didn't happen though, it sold out and is still the highest selling and most played PC handheld, literally holding the market up on its own. The Steam Deck is never going to beat the Switch 2, but it sure as hell will kill every PC handheld in the market or coming to the market. Microsoft can't beat Valve and neither can Sony, and both can't beat Nintendo either.

Steam Deck 2 most definitely. Plus, I'm not expecting games to go beyond any longer. AAA is about to crash and go back to AA while indies about to take over. Japan knows how to make games and knows how to make them work. AAA industry here in the US is about to be in for a rude awakening. Sony and Microsoft will make their games work on the Steam Deck 2 and Switch 2 and AAA third parties will be forced to follow suit.

It will mainly due to the fact that home consoles and desktop PCs/Laptops all for gaming will be unaffordable. The Switch 2 will serve as an entry point to console gaming, the Steam Deck 2 will serve as an entry point to PC gaming. Sony and Microsoft will go third party and eventually stop completely with hardware. AAA can't afford to lock everyone out of their games and they can't afford to stay woke if they want to have a future. AAA devs better start getting with the program when it comes to the Switch 2 and Steam Deck 2, they don't have much time left.

And no one cares, Microsoft is shifting away from Xbox for Windows, Sony will try to keep the PS5 going but they need the PS6 to sell and if the PS6 isn't selling with only the PS5 making up the brunt of the sales, it'll be over for them by the 11th generation. It's pretty much already over for Microsoft, they're done. Microsoft will discontinue the Xbox in a heartbeat once next gen is fully underway for their "Windows Xbox".

To people who know more about Switch OCing and OCing in general more than me, the Switch 2 runs at like 10 watts, if they devs were able to crank the wattage to like 30 watts, battery life be damned since it's bad anyway, how much more powerful could the Switch 2 be?

The joycon mouse mode is actually the perfect opportunity to make games that actually use the touchscreen since there’s now an alternative for docked

I just played Omega Labyrinth Life on my switch 2 and in that game it has a minigame where you give paizuri to an object you pick up in dungeons to reveal what it is and you can use two fingers on the touch screen to move both boobs at the same time to massage the totally not a cock
When I played the game on steam deck the touchscreen still worked but it spazzed out in that minigame trying to use two fingers at once, why is that?
Is there a way to fix it?

a mass produced digitizer costs literal cents. like, less than 10.
the only real cost is implementing touch drivers and software for the OS, which at nintendo's scale is also not a massive cost in the project.

>$200

Realistically, they’d be cutting out the screen, the battery, the joycons and the dock, and instead would need to produce a new shell to put everything in. If they’re including a pro controller they’re probably only saving like $30-50 in production costs.

Most people leave their house to actually do something of consequence, not whip out their nintendo toy in the middle of a public park or something.
