Maneater, on the other hand, has a problem I'm almost convinced is Denuvo-related, and they have no development team for it anymore, so it will never be removed. Randomly, the CPU spikes insanely and causes it hang for a full second, and this happens often.

DRM wasn't that complicated before Denuvo. Even Starforce wasn't horribly difficult to crack. Its reputation was related to what it did to legal owners' systems.
Some games were difficult to crack because checks would appear later in the game than the crackers played, so crackfixes would keep showing up (XIII was a notorious example, where keycards would disappear with a message telling you to buy the game popping up, and other stuff; Postal also would randomly make everyone catch fire).
