A Hollywood cast and six hours of cutscenes rivaling the best sci-fi films still don’t justify a game that’s boring to the core. It didn’t work with the first installment, and it works even less with the second. If Kojima weren’t behind it, no one would take it seriously.

player ds1 twice and really wanted to like it
took it slow, didnt just brute force the long range bike on all terrain, did side missions and took time to build the highway and both times I got to the lockne/mama part at mountain knot city i got so bored to tears I had to stop.
it seems kojima cant help himself with throwing tons of shit at the player that is completely uneplained but looks cool so you just have no idea what the fuck is going on

The fact that they never show the underground cities with the surviving remnants of humanity has always been one of the biggest drawbacks of this game. You never really know what you’re fighting for, since you spend your time hauling packages and talking to holograms.

I havent played the second one so maybe that trike buggy is better but the bike in the first one has the worst vehicle controls of any game in recent memory

I really like it but I'm just before the point of no return (when the story takes focus at the end for 5 hours) and I'm burnt out a little bit.
all through Mexico and Australia up until right after the motherhood/Ghost hunter kino sidequest were absolutely 1000% better than ds1, but the snowy mountain just wasn't fun. I say that as someone who thought the DS1 counterpart is the best part of the game too. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and try to do all available orders before main story segments but I stopped caring around that point.
The cast is good but at the moment but is majorly carried by the ds1 characters, rainy and tarman imo.

My first Kojima game was DS1. Can someone explain why people hate him so much? Plenty of games use actor in them, I don't see why that's a problem.

The DS games have a ton of soul, and that's rare in a AAA game. He's putting indie dev ideas into a game with a AAA budget, has a clear vision and the result is very entertaining.

If you ask me people haven't forgiven him for MGS2, a game they see as pretentious. MGS1 had basically everyone on the Kojima train and then MGS2 was divisive to say the least and then people started touting it as a post modern masterpiece and all that that, which really annoyed people for some reason.
