Tarkir was a good set, Edge of Eternities might be a good set, we'll have to see how it plays.
I'm very excited for Lorwyn once we make it past the barrage of UBslop.

Has anyone ever used Thassa's Oracle for anything other than the instant labman effect? Genuine question, since I don't really play constructed. I think you could remove the put in top/bottom part out of it and just check if you instawin and it'd be at like 99% effectiveness

art started being dogshit in kaladesh and battlebond was the tipping point into Korean MMORPG splash art tier slop

After Return to Ravnica.
Truly it was when the 3 set blocks stopped and the game turned into commmmmanderrrrrrrrr.
FUCK COMMANDER.
>have to use the same auto include cards that say commander on them or you can't compete
>its supposed to make more cards viable and fun but it feels like the opposite where nothing is good enough for commander unless its a combo

I played from the release of Onslaught through to Ravnica when I was a little kid
The decline started when I learned how to actually deckbuild through buying singles online instead of frankesteining shitty decks with a bunch of stray cards from packs and trading with my friends. Aesthetics and lore wise I feel like the game was already in decline when I picked it up, Kamigawa was good but Mirrodin and Ravnica were both really lame compared to the older sets that were around when I started playing.
On another note, last I played planeswalkers and the commander format didn't exist, both of those seem like they'd be extremely annoying from what I've seen

I donโ€™t remember what came first, but if it wasnโ€™t reducing and then ultimately removing the block format, then catering to UB crossover slop definitely did it

Quite literally never.
If they were so deadset on keeping the instawin, they could have just had it read "if X is greater than", not including equal to. But never forget that wotc deliberately prints broken, unfun cards to sell packs.

Covid was when it went off a cliff. They used it as an excuse to kill big events and lots of LGSโ€™s slowly followed. Now the game is excluded on edh, and the constructed formats have been left to rot

every big franchise is declining and its all for the same reason
the wider audience, the problem of magic (and dnd) is that in their case its working. you now can have heckin negan from the walking dead throw thors-hammer(marvelยฎ) at post malone.
everything is turning into one blob. it wont be long and we will all drink from the same toilet everytime we go online. its grim.

Nicol Bolas is back again. Was only away in his "eternal imprisonment" for 6 years.
Other than that, the story of every set in the past two years has ended, in one way or another, with the writers saying "Beware of Jace". They're basically writing him as a modern version of Urza now. He was the reason why Nicol Bolas was freed and also the story is dropping hints about the Fomori, some sort of ancient civilization that left its mark on many different planes and was once at war with the Eldrazi.

Oh, and Tezzeret has some bullshit time/reality-altering stone now.

I didn't read the stories but my understanding based on what I read about it is that Jace kidnapped a creature so that it would be a guide to the realm where Bolas and Ugin were stuck and when he freed them, he somehow became a pure being of mana. Some sort of demigod.
