Was Sonic Adventure technically impressive in 1998?

>Dreamcast had Hitachi SH-4 and only console ever created that supports automatic order independent alpha blending.
>Genesis can't do transparency, Saturn can't do transparency, Dreamcast goes all out on transparency and lighting, supports 8-bit destination alpha blending with 24-bit sourcing 32-bit z-buffer
>Saturn and Dreamcast diffuse+specular lightning based on palette indices

Obviously. The dreamcast when it first came out was like having an arcade machine at home. There's a reason why it sold extremely well until the ps2 came out.

dreamcast = sega naomi
sega arcade hardware always looked a generation ahead compared to the competition. the model 3 games looked almost like dreamcast titles and this was 1995.

and then none of it was actually used in the final game. As much as you jerk off SA1 it had some of the most blatant bullshots in videogame history

I thought Skies of Arcadia was more impressive because there's not a single CGI cutscene besides the credits. Everything is done in real time. JRPGs at the time relied heavy on FMVs.

The PS2 was announced 3/2/99, wayyyyy before the Dreamcast's 9/9/99 launch.
