Does Anomaly have any significant interaction or dependencies for the rest of the game if I don't care about doing the stuff in that DLC? I don't have it but am tempted to get Odyssey.
>>715399740nope, people were mentioning it in another thread but it is the tightest scope of the DLCs and really only affects its own scenario storyline stuff.

>>715390873Mortar batteries are pretty legit once raid volumes go up.
8 odd mortars fired simultaneously at the enemy "idle while the others do work" point is good.
Mortars tend to shred legs, which means hits that don't result in casualties tend to do heavy movespeed buffs, which are then compounded with the increasing blood loss. This stops them from arriving with the bulk of the enemy force, if they don't down/die on the way, and that makes a large force much more managable.
I feel mortars are pretty underrated in general for this reason, spreading the enemy out is a huge boon.
Also unless it was patched the deadlife anomaly thing is retarded OP with setup. You can turn like 50 corpses into shamblers per burst, so if stockpile deadly animals you can just create an army at will, and the corpses can be recycled (decay speed after shamblerisation is massively increased but I think it resets each time so as long as you don't leave them outside for 4 days in the rain it should be fine).
Even just a few bear/thrumbo corpses in each cardinal direction can give you a massively effective vanguard, a fully loaded central stockpile can handle a raid by itself..

>>715404968It's got a 4.46 star rating with 450 reviews on Goodreads if that tells you anything.
>>715403135It has everything to do with the content of the expansion.
I've tried about 50 non-QOL mods and have only found maybe 2 that are decent. I have bad hygiene and hospitality, and arguably combat extended. I've tried the magic one, a bunch of medieval stuff, a bunch of the random vanilla expanded stuff, and some more things. Everything is either too small/meaningless, doesn't fulfill any purpose beyond adding more fluff, or just generally bad.
What are some actually good non-QOL mods? Something that fixes wealth/raids would be great, and I know there are like 10 individual mods that all change it in different ways but none of them are like a "just drop this in and now the game is fun without killboxes". You need a combination of 4 specific mods and then you have to spend 2 hours tweaking all the settings to get something that actually works well. I just want to click one button and have the game be better.
>>715405739the improved performance was a game update, not part of the DLC. retard.
So we all agree the next DLC has to target factions, right?
>>715405528No? Just build your own drop pods and launch your cracked team of comando jumpjets/snipers/psykers/melee god etc and kill off all the mortar crew and it turns into a regular raid with a shit ton of extra mortars and shells for you to sell.

Actually, question: Without activating the monolith, can you still get any threat? Or are they tiered, such that if you want to get random events of anything scary you have to either fuck with the monolith or go with ambient horror?

Yesterday I tried to combine the mechanitor and gravship starts but couldn't get it to work quite right because even if you turned on the pursing mechanoids thing that was added it still didn't start you in the orbital place like the default one does

I made it to the mid-game and am now able to make my own components from steel. I am now bottlenecked by plasteel and gold. Is the strategy from now on just calling in trading caravans for -15 goodwill, gifting them whatever to get it back then continue trading for the shit I need? Soft drugs like psychite, smokeleaf and beer aren't as lucrative as I thought for the time invested.
So I learned that you can use those weird space tees that spawned on those asteroids sometimes, the outlaw bases have rooms with carpet floors on them.
Once you clear them out its essentially the perfect base. More rooms than you could ever possibly need.

You can get a deadlife duster that can raise a shambler army.
You can get a transmutant that can convert steel statues into gold statues at a reasonable chance on a low CD (can't disassemble/cancel bill for x10 gains but still broken as shit). Even if you don't get gold you can get Plasteel a lot of the time, or Uranium if you're into that sort of thing..
You can get a walking heal serum dispenser witha relatively low chance of turning arms into tentacles, which can then be amputated and healed back into arms.
You can get a walking moodlet.
You can get a perfect pawn.
You can get an anomaly research speedrunner.
Some, like the rezmaster, are fairly eh, but some of these are utterly gamebreaking.
They come with downsides. For the most part these downsides can be negated with one simple cautionary etc.
One pawn with a shitty weapon.
One pawn with a shock lance.
The pawn with the shitty (ranged) weapon attacks the creepjoiner.
More like than not he's going to go apeshit - shock lance, imprison, convert as normal - traitor is a one time trigger and any traitor will proc on any instance of friendly fire (although "moving on" may be another additional one time trigger which may require additional shocking and a level of serendipity).
Ranged weapon because he's liable to be hosting a metalhorror so letting him bash you is risky.

I just lost an entire 3+ year colony on permadeath and I'm really bummed out. I don't feel like the game threw anything unfair at me I just don't know what I should have done different. It was just neardenthals with knifes and clubs but they downed even my fully armored colonists super fast. StS difficulty. Why the hell are coolers 70% flammable?
>>715463839>It's just not worth it and you should think about your>own goalsWhat goals? Endlessly killing raiders?
>>715462396Not long at all. The first few colony will suck but you'll get the hang of it quickly.Start on something easy ( temperate forest for example has all the ressources avalaible easily and simple weather).
The one thing i'd say is to be aware of components. Never a bad idea to stock up when a trader show up
>>715463839are DLCs treated like must-haves or can I enjoy the game without them? I know paradox for example pretty much assumes you own all/most of the DLC and the game is broken without some.
>>715463330I disagree. I’ve had so many late game colonies turn out completely different, but most of my early game runs are basically the same.
>>715464031Make harem of monster girls
>>715464087The only DLC that isn't must-have is Anomaly
It adds a bunch of different anomalies like zombies, different monsters and other shit that you can fight and research unlocking new stuff
I like it but it really falls behind other DLCs and a lot of people rightly consider the new threats to be too challenging
So ignore it unless you want invisible soul-eating monsters, exact copy of your colonist suddenly appearing or parasitic robots that gradually take over your colonists
>>715464087I remember playing vanilla without any issues. Just use creamapi for DLC, anny.
>>715464550I find late game super boring because it's completely trivial or the game sends a basically unstoppable force at you
Also having large colonies is boring because you always have redundancy in pawns so no individual pawn truly matters.

Are there good benefits for dealing with all this bullshit or is it just an endless headache?
>>715465274Based space rapper.
>>715462396I think the least intuitive thing is melee combat.
Natural instinct would suggest being able to stand far away from the enemy crowd is much superior to having to engage them directly. And this is compounded by the fact that in the early game this is definitely true, for the most part. You have no armor, no shield belt, and usually very little in the way of medical supplies for little scratches and tears. But the power of melee just grows and grows as the game progresses, meaning getting that natural instinct that comes with experience is much more difficult.
In another sense, knowing about choking doors and utilising the friendly fire safe zone is probably the most esoteric of the "standard" gameplay elements.
>>715466183My understanding is that you basically want 3 melee dudes with shields to bottleneck a door and then gunners behind them.
>>715465898There's a setting that makes anomalies rare
And there's some useful stuff that can be made from anomalies
>>715384654 (OP)I'm playing palworld anyways.
I'm always surprised when people don't like Ideology or think it's mediocre.
It's still the one system that impacts my playthroughs the most. I do concede however that mods are very helpful because the structures and styles of vanilla aren't all that numerous. I find myself using modded memes frequently.
Is there a way to make AI faction ideologies completely random? They all seem to reuse presets.
>>715466840Ideology doesn't add much that I couldn't do by just roleplaying
>>715466662In my experience you can bottleneck on 1 pawn but that put a shitload of pressure on him and heavily degrades his equipment. 3 man works better for me.
I'm interested in seeing how good/bad the beem grazer will be with phoenix armor melee blockers.
>>715462713Yeah, I don't really get why so many people say that they turn off anomaly. Its a great DLC even if you don't focus on its questline or research.
I enjoy the extra events from shamblers to cultists, the books, occasional weapons from anomaly and the weird joiners are great. Right before I fucked up and died I had a deadlife dust joiner. He could just ressurect corpses on demand, pretty great.
Then I landed on an ice sheet with deep freeze and everyone froze to death before I could bail since the temps wend down to -70~at night.
>>715467716it's too fantastical for my tastes.
>>715467789You know what. That is a reasonable take on it.

>>715462396The tutorial is actually pretty good for this game and will get you through the basics in about 30 minutes but one of the most important things to learn is setting manual priorities on your pawns. this will help you dictate what jobs your pawn will do so they don't waste time doing jobs they suck at. you can also set what hours your pawns will sleep, work, or play. Having pawns engage in recreation at the same time has a higher chance of socializing and mood buffs so I usually give them two hours in the morning before work.
never been a fan of juggling multi-map things, like sending half my colonists on a trip while the other stay. is the colony ship basically just "pick up the base and move it somewhere else" type stuff?
My autism is making it very hard to expand my ship, because I desperately want to cling to some amount of symmetry and for it to kinda look like it could actually fly.
>>715470414>is the colony ship basically just "pick up the base and move it somewhere else" type stuff?Yes
you were a good meat shield, my dear african american friend
>>715470414Here's a typical ship
>>715470430Space is tight. You will be landing to exploit resources - plant rice, cut trees, mine ore, hunt animals, and then move somewhere else. Make a temp base outside, maybe for a prison or a dining room or w/e, and in 2 weeks pick it up.
Once you get enough guys, you will drop on top of savages to raid them probably.

>>715470756I am enjoying the gravship gameplay but I feel kind of aimless with it.

>>715470890>I am enjoying the gravship gameplay but I feel kind of aimless with it.Visit ruins/abandoned bases, explore them, fight the enemies there, do the hacking stuff. I like it.
The big issue is that its hard to have a big crew on the tight ship space, and you kind of need a big crew to keep raiding.
>>715471221If you do the ship starting scenario, mechanoids are mad at you for stealing their shit, and they will find you and attack you if you stay in the same space too long. But honestly, you want to leave before they find you, just harvest everything you need and move on.
I rarely stay more than the time it takes for my slow crop to grow.
>>715471242>Visit ruins/abandoned bases, explore them, fight the enemies there, do the hacking stuff. I like it.Yeah, that bit is fun but I feel like my game ended very fast. Raiding space stations gets you so many good resources/tech so fast, so your wealth goes up fast, which leads into the problem you mentioned.
Removing most of the colony management aspects of the game by being nomadic means resource scarcity isn't a big problem anymore because you just pack up and move somewhere else with no consequences.
>>715471527That as me curious. Do you just abandon your land base? Do the Mechanoids fuck with you constantly?

i like this dlc mechanically but it feels very shallow. you quickly start running into the exact same layouts of outposts, the ship upgrades are just "fly the ship a bit further" or "less likely to have shit break down on landing"
no space battles
most stuff on the planet is very boring once you see it once
new rare weapons barely change gameplay, shit like +15% accuracy -15% damage

>>715457197>bloat modthe only bloat comes from downloading 100000 other additional optional mods that might use it, CE itself is quite straightforward in its goal: it turns garbage vanilla combat and projectiles into actually being physics based and armor not being useless.
vanilla combat just rolls a dice-roll when a naked tribal shoots a bow and arrow at your full cataphract space marine, and it says "oh okay there was a 1/12 chance of hitting his head, ok thats a critical hit, now your brain and eyes are max damaged and you die" with armor being useless even with full coverage.
naked starving tribals bum rushing machine gun emplacements to beat space marines to death with clubs is a completely viable strategy in vanilla, it makes the game both too easy to cheese and unsatisfying if you don't

if you try taking down mechanoids with hollow points made for shredding naked tribals you're gonna have a bad fucking time and that's by design, if you don't want that just disable ammo and use the default FMJ against everything
