New mainline Sonic game is coming. What are your predictions on its gameplay and story? I bet it will be an Open Zone game and it will expand on Sage's character.

I kinda like boost as long as it's used well. In Sonic Unleashed, it was fairly exhilarating if you got it down right. But I also think that Sonic should have more variety. Not every game should be a boost game.

Actually, I think you could have your cake and eat it too. You know how in Sonic '06, Sonic had "high speed" stages? Maybe you could separate Sonic's stages into two categories, boost and not-boost.

Hopefully, they make something less visually drab this time. I think there is for sure a great video game lurking around in there somewhere, they just have to not fuck it up.

If we want to implement combat, then instead of combo autism, it should be something that play with mobility instead straight up punch and kick. Like an evolved version of Ys' bump system.

The guy that always shows up in Sonic-faggot threads to post webms of the "incredible movement skill expression." in Frontiers is always funny. Possibly the most delusional fanbase

I don't want frontiers again, it really wasn't great despite being addicting.

Give us generations 3 but with all new levels this time. Or rehash levels that haven't returned before if you must. But I just want a bunch of shadow gens style levels with great set dressing and a reasonably sized hub world to connect them. Open world is completely unnecessary and damaging

For real? The combat system where whatever the fuck happened just by mashing, really? Good?
I just think slapping something like this on top of Sonic to be odd.
If it were me, Sonic would just punch enemies by making contact at them while moving. The basic enemies would get easily destroyed punched, but the thougher enemies would need to be attacked at certain angle, jumped over, using the bound to squash them. Basically, mobility as attack. Hell, if you want an attack button so much, bring the somersault back from SA2 and just stick a 1-2-3 combo on it.

Make an original game with original levels, I want out of the "REMEBER THE GOOD OL' DAYS" era of sonic. I honestly don't mind boost/adventure/2d, just pick ONE of those established gameplay styles and do something with them PLEASE sega. don't waste another game on reinventing the wheel and don't waste a good control scheme on more rehashed levels. I dunno, the alternative according to Sonic fans is non sensical hills everywhere, basically defeating the point of horizontality.
If you want your spin downhill to get speed so much, then just play the 2D Sonic. Because that philosophy would be mega boring in 3D.

>Kishimoto's massive goal is allegedly to do a translation of the Mega Drive Sonic games into 3D
I can only imagine how hacky something like will turn out, considering Sonic Team devs are apparently only capable of eyeballing things from footage and grasping surface-level nuances than properly understanding competent game design (see their attempts at replicating mechanics from Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country in Lost World).
I'm immediately reminded of people showing Kishimoto examples of 3D rolling physics on twitter after Frontiers released, then his team translating those examples into Frontiers with the "spindash", which was literally just the boost that also turned the game's gravity off for a few seconds (yes, really) if you happened to hit any incline at a certain angle with the button held down, making it feel more like a quasi-moonjump than what people actually requested.

At this point I'd actually trust Hardlight more with a proper translation of classic gameplay into 3D than Sonic Team. At least Dream Team showed decent attempts at something similar to that style with the way you could interact with slopes and ramps. It might actually be the only 3D game in the series where jumping while running up an curved incline actually gives you a significant vertical boost.

shadow gens is the only game in the series where "combat" actually worked, and that's because shadow's different combat moves were more about using enemies to traverse the environment in different ways, not actually stopping to fight

The story will be almost non-existent and something incredibly generic while also being poorly told as they mischaracterize everyone.
Gameplay-wise it will be weightless, floaty boost slop with reused stages (once again). Maybe if we're lucky we'll get another open world game with literally no design and just scattered unity assets floating around and minigames where you hold forward.

Frontiers has some of the worst boost gameplay in the series, and the open world "boost" is just Lost World's run button.
I'll excuse them falling back on boost for the Generations expansion, but even that was one of the slower-feeling boost games available. The sooner they ditch the boost entirely the better. Removing the "shoot forward like a rocket" button will at last encourage them to make wider, more open-ended level design.

It's a Kishimoto game. There's no real reason to be hyped. It'll just be another "brief elements of good faintly shining through tons of stupid" experience.
The best entries from 2010 to now have all been non-Kishimoto games, to put things into perspective.
