Metroid dread messed up a niche but important formula in metroid games:
In Metroid video games, the end goal is physically near where you start. This is true in
-Metroid 1
-Metroid 2
-Metroid 3
-Metroid Prime
-Metroid Prime 2
-Metroid Prime Pinball
-Metroid Fusion
-Metroid: Zero mission

This is a clever subversion of expectations because your goal is only a short walk from where you start the adventure. The only reason you can't get there is because you need to call on the help of the Chozo to become stonger. All other nintendo games have you start at the bottom of a mountain, and slowly work your way up to the peak, to fight the final boss.

But where does metroid dread drop you at the beginning? At the bottom of a mountain, and you have to climb upwards and eventually you reach a floating fortress in the sky. (how cliche. Every other nintendo game does this). I suppose it's no coincidence that Metroid Prime 3 dropped this formula as well and it was the metroid game before Dread.

I have never seen anyone else bring this up.

there are way worse things to mess up than this, like how fusion and other M completely fucked up the core progression of the series. Dread kind of does to but not nearly to the same extent

This is technically still true for Dread, if you consider the opening scene in Hanubia where the game starts.

Because it's not important or true. You even left out hunters and as much as I dislike the game, other m because they don't fit that pattern of being near where you start.
And if you want to be technical 1 to super don't do it either, since they have climbs back to the top.

Also
>and you have to climb upwards and eventually you reach a floating fortress in the sky. (how cliche. Every other nintendo game does this)
I'm pretty sure prime 2's was in the sky in the dark world too.

how pedantic.
>if you have to climb upwards 25 or so meters then that's basically the same thing as starting horizontally very far away from your goal.
Not

>Super metroid has you climbing upwards to get to Tourian.

Yeah because it's cookie cutter

And Dread dared to do something different.

You're saying this as someone who's criticising a game for something that wasn't a consistent part of the series to begin with.

>>Super metroid has you climbing upwards to get to Tourian.
Thank you for disagreeing with yourself.
>the end goal is physically near where you start.
Tourian is the depths of zebes. Aka the furthest location from the start.
You can't even try to claim that returning to the ship is the end goal since you've just told us that you see it as Tourian rather than Crateria.
That also means you have to apply the same logic to 1 and 2.

>>>Super metroid has you climbing upwards to get to Tourian.

Fucking what? I was quoting you. You said that Metroid 2 and Super have you climbing upwards to get to the end goal, and that's just untrue.

>Tourian is the depths of zebes. Aka the furthest location from the start.
>You can't even try to claim that returning to the ship is the end goal since you've just told us that you see it as Tourian rather than Crateria.
>That also means you have to apply the same logic to 1 and 2.

I can see I'm dealing with a bad-faith troll because you're not trying to understand what I'm saying and you are being needlessly hostile towards my position. The ENTRANCE to the goal is near samus in 90% of Metroid games. Who the fuck would argue against this basic fact?

I know that in Metroid dread and Prime 3 the entrance to the goal is VERY far away from where you start (and my point was that most video games have you travel very far to get to the end goal). This isn't true for 90% of metroid games. You are just a bad-faith troll trying to get my rage up and you probably have 15 4chan tabs open right now making sure you get the last laugh in every thread. I'm not going to respond to your nonsense anymore because that's what gets you horny.

My point was that it's decently close to where you begin, unlike in Zelda and Mario and Dragon Quest and Sonic and Final Fantasy and Castlevania and Pikmin and Metal Gear and Dark Souls and undertale and Donkey Kong and Bioshock and Minecraft and Persona and Mass Effect and Lego star wars and pretty much every other video game in existance.

Not a single thing about it was memorable besides the memes.

I mean, I guess. My expectations were subverted because the Metroid formula was changed to be like every other game.

I'm not even a fan & I thought it wasn't great, the game would be 1/3rd as long if it only had unique bosses & it would've been much better for it.

Damn. I didn't want to go that far. I just thought it was too sanitary and soulless, but I still thought it was a decent metroid game. Definitely not A tier but still worth buying.

>all of them except the very last 2.
Yes because 1, 2 and Super are the last two games.
Super in particular the start is Ceres which is destroyed anyway.

Your ignorance aside you can't even claim it's the last two games since that would be Dread and Samus Returns, funnily enough because of the Ridley fight in the latter the end is actually physically near the start now but of course you didn't know that so let's go one game down. Federation Force, which is mission based and the last mission doesn't occur in the same location at the first. The first location being Excelsion and the last being a space pirate ship.
Back one more is other M where the MB fight is closer than most games but still not the start if I remember right.

>Fucking what? I was quoting you.
Strange, given I never said you climb up to Tourian. That was all you.
>> The ENTRANCE to the goal is near samus in 90% of Metroid games
That's even worse than your original statement, since the entrance to the final area isn't usually anywhere near the start.
>bad-faith troll
You can call it that but the reality is that you were just wrong and that's okay. You just don't know as much about Metroid as most fans do.
Take this as a learning experience, not something to be mad about.

this seems like an extremely pedantic point since the final boss battle in Dread still takes place near where Samus arrived on the planet, the player just doesn't get control until after Samus rides down the elevator and jobs.

i've mostly suppressed the memories of it, but i'm fairly sure that Other M doesn't follow your "game ends near where you start" rule, for whatever that is worth.

This post encapsulates why autists attach to the "Samus is an emotionless killing machine" headcanon. That way they can project themselves onto her. The idea that she's a woman who socializes and fucks offends the autist because then she is not a pristine fem-autist reserved for anon but a dirty slut just like the rest of them.
